Yes, that was a good decision using the road to #15. Of course I didn't pick up on that option until I was standing in line waiting to download. Not only did the terrain slow me down, but I got turned around in the various marshes and knolls. I wound up on the larger hill to the north of the control and had an 11 minute leg. I think the road may have even been even faster than a well executed straight line leg through the woods.
I saw the road option early (on my way to #8) but was unconvinced that it was a win; it seemed to depend on the woods. When I got to #14, I was concerned about the attack at #15 plus knew that I was mentally less with it than I might be and decided that the road was safer. As an added bonus, the isthmus between the swamps was really obvious from the road attack point (pond/puddle). Probably the smartest decision I made all weekend - and the road option is not usually a win for me...
I saw the road option, but didn't take it (although I did take the road from 10-11). Sitting here, I have no idea why I didn't take it. I vaguely remember thinking there was too much junk between the road and the control, but I would have saved a nice chunk of time.
I debated the road from 10-11. Looking now, it might have been interesting to take it all the way to the trail and then to the reentrant and finally catch folks leaving the control. Oh well...
