Are you sure this wasn't William's not-too-subtle way of saying he didn't think the spurs were such a good idea? :-)

Nah, William is a good guy :-) It was my fault for not being clear with my aids. He wasn't sure which way I wanted him to go.

The spurs are very small (less than 1") blunt knobs. Not the big spikey Western rowels like you might first think of.
