There have been several discussions on AP, that you can find by doing a search. This one was at the top of the search results list.

Hope it helps some, and at least gives you some names of others who've had it done.

Thanks very much for that link, Janet -- interesting how variable the results are. Since I'm at the upper end of the age range of all of the people making comments (actually, I think possibly none are as old as I am, although I didn't check the ages of every person commenting), I'm guessing my recovery would tend to be longer and less successful, in general, than the norm. In any event, this is very valuable information, and nice getting multiple points of view from people who have been through it.

Right now, I have my primary care physician strongly recommending against any sort of surgery, at least not until I give it 2-6 months to see how much I might recover w/o surgery, and my ortho doctor who isn't pushing me into it by any means, but certainly feels it would be beneficial (but still says not to plan on running after the surgery).
