First thing I thought reading that sentence about buying roller skis was, "oh, that could hurt."
Lets see, crash hat, knee pads, elbow protectors are de rigor ! unless of course you have a past history as an inline skater?
Example above is definitely not what I had in mind! Knee pads & mitts (cold as well) and level surface & no speed thrills (relatively speaking). I was thinking of the BHS track which is a reasonably forgiving all-weather surface - or the adjacent parking lot. Could be at it around 4:45 - no one to see or interfere & something new to do on the way home from town. I figure if i want to get better at skate skiing, I need more practice - but safe practice.
Read Bill's again & can imagine going the other way, so elbow protection is a most definite consideration, too. Have knee pads from house/boat work, so no investment there. Maybe $160 for the roller skis & bindings some more.
I/we ice skate now & then w/o the above. Those first few minutes are always rather uncertain. Ice is hard, too...esp. hard backwards. More age, more 'worry'.... Youth is/was worry-free. Sigh.
