Orienteering race 1:40:13 [4]
Like looking for the light switch in a dark hotel room, I got around this map not in straight lines, but by bumping into features and constantly correcting my course.
I also overran a lot, but fortunately my spidey sense is in good working order. Though I feel a bit weird about how I relied so heavily on spidey sense in this race. It's like I was navigating more with my gut than with my skills. On one hand, it's nice to have developed that. On the other hand, what the heck am I doing? Navigation voo doo?
I also took some needlessly long routes. I was navigating just fine and didn't need to take chicken routes. Could have saved 2 minutes on 5, a minute on 12, 2 minutes on 14.
So, while I could have ran with more confidence, it was the first technical race of the spring/summer season-- and I'm very happy to have avoided any catastrophes!
I really enjoyed myself out there and am looking forward to more of this. And I do get more of this! The Teanaway Nav Race is coming up! Funky, my usual teammate, has adopted a trail runner and will be piloting her own ship. And a funky party ship it will be!
Meanwhile, I scored Mrs.Socks! Somewhat shockingly, this will be the first time we've teamed up.
