Snow Skiing 7:24:00 [4] 8.08 mi (54:58 / mi) +4434ft 36:10 / mi

Backcountry ski with a buddy from work and his friend. We went up near Mt. Angeles and the Klahanie Ridge. We parked at the turn-out and got going a little before 8am. The snow going up was patchy and was quite solid. I ended up putting on my crampons for the hike up to the ridge. We made 5 laps (~500ft vert. each) on the north bowl of the ridge. Really nice warm sunny day with great views of the Strait, Mt. Baker and the Olympics interior. Coming back down to the car at the end of the day was pretty rough. We had a rough foot traverse over to the main gully and then tricky skiing down the gully that still held snow. Some tree/bush negotioations and one cliff/dry-waterfall to go around, but were able to mostly ski back to car with two ski carries (four counting the traverse at the top and small carry at the end). It was fun to get out again on the BC gear.

PS I had several falls on the up-tracks but none on the down-tracks. I have lots of room for improvement on my skinning and kick-turns.
