On Monday night we had a horrible accident at the track during the women's night program I have been coaching with KF for the last few months. KO'B was in town so she came out for women's night. While doing an effort on the track her rear tire blew and she lost control of the bike. She was the only rider on the track at the time, however, the other women were present and watching.
I responded first, paramedics were called, she was taken to the hospital where she remains in a medically induced coma.
This was not how the night was supposed to end. It was supposed to end with giggles and a powerhouse on the back (or front) of the tandem.
I have a lot of feelings. Yesterday none of us went to work or got on our bikes. I didn't event look at a bike.
Today I got on my bike. I didn't really want to but I knew that I should. I rode alone dispite having a number of people asking me to ride. I jumped when I heard a horn and again when a rock pinged off my tire and I also cried when I saw people without helmets.
My heart wasn't really there yet. But I got on my bike so I think right now that's a win.
