Gravel Bike race (Pavement) 3:18:00 [5] 59.5 mi (18.0 mph)

MEC Century Ride - London

Yup, a road event. I rode my Warbird with the Gravel King tires. There were 5 of us representing the Banded Goose Cycling Club (Paul stayed home and did a lot of yard work.....he's a good man). There was a lap of the Delaware Speedway track within the first 20km, and my parents came to watch that. We were moving a lot faster than I thought we would, so they missed the lap (but I chatted with them for a few minutes while the others topped up their water bottles....not on the clock). There was a pretty steady NW wind and a few roads went NW. We took turns pulling, but the joke was that every time it was my turn, there would be an uphill. Gaa.
But dang, that was a fast ride. We made one other stop for water (and a banana). We joined up with 3 guys from Sarnia for our paceline. On the last NW road, I took a pull then a guy from Sarnia took a pull, so we were at the back when it was time to go up the biggest hill. We fell off the back of the pack, so it was just the two of us exchanging pulls for the next 5-6 miles. Even at 20 mph we couldn't catch the 6 riders who had pulled ahead.
He stopped at the last water station so I did the last 10 miles solo. 18 mph in the country and 16 mph in London as I worked my way through the stop signs and traffic lights. As one other rider said, I was pushing a lot of tire out there. But I wasn't afraid of potholes and loose gravel at intersections!
The burger at Toboggan Brewery was well appreciated, but I could have eaten a second one. And since it was a MEC event, I got 10% off at the MEC store on my way out of London.
Goodness, that was a fast ride.

Canoeing (Flat water) 1:00:00 [3] 2.8 mi (2.8 mph)

L and I did another test paddle. Cedar Creek was smooth......other than the odd flopping fish (carp?) that tried to scare the crap out of us. We tried both kayak paddles and canoe paddles. The jury is out.....
