Last run of Wyandotte short and hilly. I had no expectations for this run, just wanted to practice moving through the woods. My legs were heavy at the beginning, but felt better as I kept moving. No big mistakes, just a steady pace. Saw a lot more deer than usual; maybe because it was just before dusk?
As I approached the last control, I looked at my watch. Five minutes less than my PR; could I push it? From the last control to the finish, it is straight up (33 meters of climb in 200 meter leg). When I punched, I had three minutes until my PR. So I threw caution to the wind and actually jogged up sections of the hill. I took a perfectly straight line, pushed hard, broke out of the woods, up to the lone tree, punched my watch---broke the record by 55 seconds :)
A very nice way to end my woods training season. Time to celebrate with a box of Peeps!
