Note

My strange-feeling knee was fine, but instead of doing any training, I ate. Mary and I went to Free State for an anniversary dinner.

Note

For the last 3 or 4 days my right knee has felt a little odd. It doesn't hurt, but it feels odd. I wonder what's up with that. I might take a few days of complete rest.

Biking to/from the trailhead at Clinton. Nice day to be out.

running 1:05:00 [2]

On the trails at Clinton. I carried the map and looked at it occasionally.

The Trailhawks have a 100 miler on the trails this weekend and I met quite a few (maybe 20) of the runners as the neared the finish. I'm not exactly sure when they started, but I'm thinking they had been out about 30 hours. I got out of the way as I spotted any runners and pacers heading to me. I cheered them on a bit. I'm really impressed with anyone who runs that far.

I didn't keep tally, but I'm thinking that about 3-4 of the runners looked really bad. They had blank stares, odd postures, and looked awful. About the same number looked really good. How can you have run that far and look good? And the bulk looked ok - tired and worn out, but moving reasonably well.

Biking on bike paths, roads and some gravel. I went out to Clinton and past Bromelsick. I'm putting together a basemap for Eric S to use at Bromelsick.

Weather was cool (maybe mid/upper 60s) and a mix of mist/drizzle/light rain/no rain.

Note

A few notes from the trip to Laramie.

I was mostly satisfied with how I managed the altitude. 3 out of 4 days was good. Of course, that one bad day was really bad. I went too hard at the start, made a big mistake, had trouble breathing, went too hard again, and made another mistake.

I tried a few things in the weeks before we went to get my navigating/orienteering mind to work. That experiment was successful, except I should figure out a better way to prep for the altitude (I have a few ideas that I'll try before the next opportunity).

A couple of new travel items worked well (water bottle for flight replacing one I lost/broke; new noise cancelling ear buds; and small pillow). I still had a lot of trouble sleeping in Laramie. I usually do. I need to work on that.

Laramie is a lot of fun. We had a very nice AirBNB. We had a few good meals. The orienteering was mostly interesting. Weather was pleasant (cooler would have been ideal, but it was a very welcome change from home). Good company.

Gene got a nice award/recognition through OUSA (Golden Service Award or something like that). It was well deserved.

Note

Finally enough gap in the rain to get the lawn mowed. It was deep.

Jogging on West Campus. I need to mow the lawn, but it is too wet.
