Easy spin in the 60" gear. Decided to see how well the shoulder would handle the increased vibration and extra weight support on the road bike. Felt fine for the first half hour then got uncomfortable in a hurry. Probably another week before I can ride in this position for any length of time. Just as well, since I really need to be focusing my training on running for the next couple weeks before starting to taper.
I think I may have been a bit hard on the Cannondale. Granted, even a crappy road bike feels like cheating when you've been putting around on a 29'er, but this is still a decent bike even after all the years, miles, and crashes. It needs a new chain and freewheel and the handlebars definitely need to be retaped, but everything else is working fine. For about $150 in maintenance, I could be back to a pretty nice ride. The dilemna, of course, is that I really don't care about road riding anymore. I suppose the smart move would be to sell it to someone who does.
