Orienteering race 1:03:00 [3]

Blue course at Gogbatch on Long Mynd. Enjoyed this a lot - pushed hard up (most of) the hills. A couple of misses and dodgy route through the bracken early on, but very enjoyable. Walked a bit in the middle at toddler pace when my route coincided with Evs and Dads controls.
Wore new speedgoats - fine for the long mynd and good for my foot, but not sure they’d fare very well in tougher terrain. Also height of cushioning feels a bit weird - more risk of rolling ankles in them I think. Hopefully some practice will help.

Brisk walk/jog into town - in a rush to get to bike shop before it closed.

Hurried cycle back home - in a rush to get back for tea time…

Walking 5:10:00 [1] 27.0 km (11:29 / km) +700m 10:10 / km

From Stanhope - collier law, park head station, bolt law, rookhope, smailsburn common, long hill and back via a currick and down valley with Stanhope burn.
Tough day out - into the wind for the boring section of C2C which wasn’t much fun - regretting not spending more time preparing and planning a better route! Good mix of terrain as spent a decent bit of time in the heather. Stopped for my sandwich in Rookhope and found it tough to get going again. Got the kids cold as well (not as bad as rob yet…) which didn’t help - just wasn’t feeling too energetic in general.
Have invested in a couple of pairs of new trainers this week. Wore Hoka challenger today - a lot stiffer so better for toe, which was pretty good most of the way today. Grip not ideal on them (slippy on wet grass) but fine for what I needed today and generally coped with mixed terrain well. Have some speedgoats on the way…
Have booked every other Wednesday off work for the rest of the year to get some miles in. Today taught me that I need to plan better if I want to make the most of them and get back in time for tea - faffed this morning packing, and didn’t really have enough/the right hill snacks.
Toe sore now :-( will see how it is tomorrow as need to walk into town to get my bike.

Walking 1:20:00 [1]

Various walking sections of commute to work. Home to station, Newcastle to Gateshead, and then the reverse (all uphill on way home).
Logging as worked hard enough to make my toe sore.
