Running 23:00 [3] 2.0 mi (11:30 / mi)
slept:5.5 shoes: 2014 Hoka Stinsons

Long travel, day, as it turned out, not into Madison until about 1130, then felt pretty sick in the morning, tired, stuffed up, sneezing, scratchy throat. But a full day of trial prep. Forced myself out to jog at 5, but didn't get very far. Madison is quite nice, from what I've seen. I don't think I've ever been here before.

Garmin misbehaving again. It was full when I left home, but drained the battery by today. I was so sure it would do that in Europe but it lasted through 5 races and a jog around Firenze, and still had 60% when I got home. Anyway, this is where I went.

The other Garmin issue I had in Europe was that the charger got fried in Turkey. Don't know why. It worked ok in Cyprus, has worked ok in Europe before. Luckily I have another one.

Rowing Machine 21:45 [3] 5.0 km (4:21 / km)
slept:6.5 weight:163.8lbs

This was hard, hard enough that I was a little unhappy that I had set the countdown for 5K instead of 2 or 3. Psychologically, however, the last 2K is always much easier than the middle part. Back was tight, sore, not much oomph. I did finish strong, but my average stroke pace (25) was a lot higher than a couple of days ago when I was rowing more easily and faster (22).

Rowing Machine 21:07 [3] 5.0 km (4:13 / km)
slept:6.5 weight:164lbs

Pretty good. Wasn't in striking distance of 21 in the early going, which removed the stress of trying for it, but a good hard workout anyway.

Split paces:
2:08.0
2:07.8
2:07.9
2:07.2
2:02.2

Nice strong finish, the last 300 or so all at sub 2:00.
10 PM

Gym 30:00 [3]

Limber session after long day at the computer, trying to catch up before a week away.

Note
slept:6.5 weight:164.8lbs

Long day in DC. Eat something and crash.

Hike 37:00 [3] 2.5 mi (14:48 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:164.6lbs shoes: 2012 Hoka Stinsons

Off to walk the Bunker Hill-Hanson loop with Rhonda, but back was very tight, toe a bit sore, and when Zack stopped by in the car I hopped in.
12 PM

Note

George's limber 11 series. I have been doing a lot of this without particularly giving it a name. Certainly it's a good idea. I think twice a day would be about right, but that would be quite a commitment.
2 PM

Rowing Machine 8:53 [3] 2.0 km (4:27 / km)

Back tender, not much enthusiasm. Glad I hadn't planned on more.
3 PM

Note

Looked over the splits analysis from yesterday. Interesting that I was as slow as I was even on the legs I felt like I executed well. Thought I lost a lot more than 2:15 on 14, but the analysis said I lost :52 on 18 when I felt like I was doing just fine. It is really hard for me to make any kind of pace. My own internal barometer of poor navigation was that I had lost about 6 on #2 and about 5 each on 9 and 14. Didn't think much about loss on 7, which was mostly just slow and awkward climbing over things, and on 18. Maybe I lost time there because I was going around the marshes. Were the fast guys stomping right through? Makes sense that it might have been faster to go straight, if wetter and colder. Even my best split (17) was only a 7th, and that deserves an asterisk because I had gone by there on my way to 9.
