Red Tail GC, Lakewood. A new course for me. Took the 5:55am train downtown out to the far NW suburbs. Golf course is six miles from the train, with no bus service. So I arranged a cab to pick me up and take be back to the train...$42 in cab fare! But together with train fare, much cheaper still than owning, renting or leasing a car for the 120mi round trip..I don't care what the make, model or age! And that's supposing I had the patience to sit in traffic during rush hour both ways! I'm amazed that so many people do it daily...like a knee-jerk reaction: goin' to work? Gotta drive! There should be a local bus service here, feeding the trains down to town.

The advantage of these distant courses are that land was cheap when they built them; big, broad fairways, nicely placed greens, lots of water hazards, very attractive landscaping. As usual I walked by myself after asking the Starter if there were any other walkers I could play with. Always nicer that way. But out here, everyone eats fried food, has a sedentary job, abhors exercise, and sits in golf carts. So I ended up walking by myself.

Shot pretty well, compared with Monday. And enjoyed every hole. Only two tee shots off the mark out of 18. 127 slope rating is a bit more than I usually tackle. But glad I didn't step down to Red tees. So far, I'm still playing Whites, Blues or Blacks...depending upon my feeling that day, and the total distance. Hopefully I'll leave the Reds for my eighties, in a couple of years.
