NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 30:00 [3] 6.3 km (4:46 / km)

Another piece for the 2017 season. Hopefully to be greatly exceeded later in the season. Sweating like a pig in the humid, close basement despite the open windows.

NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 9:14 [3] 2.0 km (4:37 / km)

Long day of golf yesterday. Took the Rock Island out to Joliet, then bus, then walk on busy suburban road...wow has this area changing in the 4-5 years I've been coming out here. This used to be a quiet country road!

Played with three techs that operate nearby Dresden II & III..the first nuclear power plant in the midwest. Illinois gets 70% of its electric power from nukes. Those 3 guys were amazed when I told them I'd constructed the nuclear 'penetration seals' for their reactor, way back in the 1960's. I'd been an engineer for GE in their Nuclear Power Division in San Jose. And was in charge of the manufacture of the seals that pass thousands of electrical signals into and from the reactor core. We developed our own technology, using vacuum chambers and epoxies. An interesting chapter, that seems so long ago.

Biking-Road 1:45:00 [4] 25.0 mi (4:12 / mi) +25m 4:11 / mi
shoes: Nike Bike Shoes

Beautiful spring Sunday morning. Full sun, not a breath of a breeze, no traffic at 6am. First real bike ride of the season. And man, did I suffer. Just in 25 miles! Completely beat by the time I reached home. Only a year ago I could have done twice this distance, and felt invigorated. Now I just feel painfully stiff, sore and beat. Just like Global Warming, it is amazing how fast natural things can deteriorate.

But good breakfast up on the North Shore, in Wilmette. Huge but thin and delicate crepes, with nothing on them, served flat...with a big glass of fresh-squeezed OJ. Excellent!

NordicTrak 10:00 [3]

Erg rowing 19:06 [4] 4.0 km (4:47 / km)

Two 2k pieces; the best was in 9:03.4 for a pace of 2:15.8. This was still 21 seconds more than my best time from last season. But 15 seconds better than my 2k time three weeks ago.
