Orienteering race 39:00 [5]
EOC relay 1st leg for NOR 1.
Failed to bring my team safely through the 1st leg...
I started out good by focusing on myself and picking my own forkings the first 2 controls, before the field came back together approaching the 3rd control. Was with the first teams to control nr 4 and took some time to look at the long 5th leg while running behind some other teams. Felt stressed and the others seemed a bit undecided where to go. ANd it looks like they were aiming for the straight choice over the hill. I felt this was a bad choice and decided to go right around the hill. But I was too fast in my decision to leave the others. I ran out in the wrong direction (90 degrees) and did a hugh parallel mistake. And it stressed me too much that I had done someting alone and that I could not understand what I saw around me that I never took that necessary re-thinking when I finally find out were I was. Therefore I ran back to were I had planed to run and continued on that plan which also turned out to be the wrong routechoice. So instead of staying calm and rethink my decisions I lost almost 4 minuts and we were out of the game. From then on I was all alone and eventhough I only did some minor mistakes the rest of the way, I had destroyed all our changes - not fun at all.
Ida and Heidi fought bravely, but due to my bad decision making to the 5th control we never got the chance to fight for anything. And I am really sorry for that. I know we can be up there fighting, and I know we will to better next time. I will learn my lessons from this relay and stand stronger on the start line next time I get such an opportunity.
