Volleyball (Indoor) 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: VB: Newbalance 620

We played well. We played the first place team and won a game and almost one another. It was our first real win all season. I was blocking well.

Soccer (indoor) 24:00 [3]
shoes: Soccer Indoor Nike 2013 Mercer

We played horribly. The other team just made mince meat of us. I couldn't get my mid field to run. It was very frustrating. They would let their guy run right by and the defense was then overwhelmed. We were down 6-1 and got to bring extra player on and still got beat. Even with an extra man my team would leave at least two of the other players open. the final score was 13-7. Keep in mind we played most of the game with an extra player. I scored one of our goals.

Orienteering (score) 1:29:49 [3] 6.04 mi (14:52 / mi)
shoes: O: Icebuds 2012

Score O at Patuxent park. My back was very sore so I was planning to just go for a walk/light jog. I chose the section of close in controls. Once I got going, my back loosened up and felt good. I got beat up in some other ways early in the course (ran into branch with my chest, stick in the eye, thorns across the hole body...
I kept coming up short during the course. I figured it was just because I running slow. I didn't realize it was a 1:15,000 map. Everything worked out ok. I was planning my last few controls and had enough time to run the distance but once I got to the road I could see it much farther than I expected. I had to run very hard the last bit to get back in time. I had 11 seconds to spare.

Volleyball (indoor) 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: VB: Newbalance 620

I was hitting well. But the other team was too good for me to block. We had several opportunities to win but couldn't finish. We ended up losing all three games.
7 PM

Soccer (indoor) 42:00 [5]
shoes: Soccer Indoor Nike 2013 Mercer

We played a fast team. I rose to the occasions but still got beat. I scored one goal but got beat once allowing the other team to score. I ran all out and towards the end of the game I got faked out and was so tired that I just fell down. We lost 9-3.

I was awesome at the net. I hit well and blocked excellently. I played ok in the back but was horrible on hitting the serve. We came very close to winning the first and last game but still lost. We continue to get killed.

Soccer (indoor) 24:00 [3]

I was a little worried as my calf was still sore from the weekend. I played well. We went from being up 5-1 at the half to a tie 6-6. I played well.

Orienteering race (NAOC Sprint) 19:19 [5] 4.2 mi (4:36 / mi)
shoes: reebok ZJET 2014

I was looking forward to a urban sprint. It wasn't as urbad as I thought it would be. Mostly a street run. I had one hesitation and one wrong turn early in the course. The rest was run as hard as you can. My calf was still sore but didn't bother me much. I just ran out of steam.
2 PM

Orienteering (peoples sprint) 17:05 [5] 2.9 km (5:53 / km)
shoes: reebok ZJET 2014

I was ready for this. I was surprised there weren't more people doing it.
My calf was still sore but didn't bother me during the race.

I started in the 2nd line of the mass start so there were people in my way and I couldn't just run out. I wasn't sure how many different legs there were so decided to just ran my own race. I ran so hard I was foaming at the mouth like a tired race horse.

I messed up #! and got to pulled to another control first. I was clean to 2, 3,4 but sloppy to 5. Followed the crowd to 6. trails to 7. I was not thrilled running through the field (which I did) and wonder if the trail around was faster. I was clean through the rest of the course but ran out of steam and had to walk the final hill up into the arena (and was passed there).

ahr:142 max:160 shoes: O' Icebuds 2014

It was short for a Long course. First time in a long time that I still had lots of energy at the end of a race. I orienteered fairly cleanly. I was somewhat lucky going to #5. I couldn't tell what trail I was in but suddenly at the control location everything matched up and I went right to the control.

Interesting terrain. There were areas I could have done better but overall I was happy with my performance.

Orienteering (model) 59:46 [2] 2.67 mi (22:23 / mi)
shoes: O: falcons 2012

Model event for naoc. I had trouble adjusting to 2.5m contours. I took it slow to get a feel for the map. I don't like the vet mapping of light green and white. Med green is good. Small marshes are non existent. Trails hard to see but for trail markers. When I tried to run at speed it was very hard to watch my footing and see details on the map.

ahr:149 max:166 spiked:14/17c slept:8.0 shoes: O' Icebuds 2014

I didn't like the mapping yesterday so was worried about today. I started off ok overshot 1 by a little bit. I discovered again today that they didn't break any circles or lines so again hid key features. Lost minute at #1. Bigger problem was course design. Control 6 was in a direct line between control #1 and #2. I ran directly to #6 thinking I was going to #2. Needless to say the code didn't match so I started wondering around trying to figure out what I had done wrong. Everything pointed right back to #6. Finally I realized I was at the correct location but wrong control and went to the correct #2. At that point sevarl people who started behind me had passed me. Video followed me around for the next couple until I was able to run away.

Orienteering (U.S.Champs long red) 1:55:33 [3] **** 9.6 mi (12:02 / mi) +395m 10:40 / mi
ahr:141 max:161 slept:8.5 shoes: O: Icebuds 2012

I was worried about the length. 9.6 is a very long way. 16 years ago I ran 10.8k course on blue in the same area/map.
I started of ok but once I left the trail the map lost semblance to reality. I was having trouble telling up from down. I went right to one which was a mistake. Left was faster. There was a lot green, not mapped, that slowed me down. I drifted right to get out of it but I think it was larger than mapped which means I was farther East than I meant to be. I got to the reentrant but didn't see the control, so I started went one more. Eventually I went to steep area to right and cut in from there. #2 I blew. I misread the hills and went way right. I hit the marshes way south of the control. I took me awhile to figure out where I was. On the way to 3 I decided that the vegetation mapping was spotty. There were lots of unmapped green patches, and what was mapped wasn't always correct. 3 was fine. I didn't know if we were allowed to cross the red hash (boundary line?) so I went right instead to avoid some climb. I hit lots of gene, not always on the map. 4 was fine. 5 I took the trail. #6 I took the trail around most of the way. #6 clue description said wet pit so iwas looking for pit. The map had a wet depression. It was a shallow depression. The intermittent stream was all so dry and not much of a stream bed. #7 I stayed too low and the control circle hid the contour detail. I overshot and after a lot time, came back. #8 I drifted right then over compensated and went too far left. I basically bounced off the road to the control.
I was very unhappy about the water stops not being at controls. There was only one water stop on the clue descriptions. There were extra ones on the course but you couldn't tell where without actually having to scan for them. My route only took me to two non control water stop and one was 300m from the finish. I was very dehydrated by the end and very close to leg cramps.
Back to the course. They was some good legs but the map couldn't always back up any given route. Green was iffy, some subtle contour stuff was iffy. The detailed areas I think were just mapped poorly (but the last is probably partially my eyesight). #11 was a reentrant but was more like a flat area against steeper hillside.
Needless to say, I was slow, sloppy, and with the potential leg cramps not happy by the finish.

ahr:156 max:164 slept:7.0 shoes: O: Icebuds 2012

A runners course. My back was sore and it hurt to run all out. I had some hesitation throughout the course but was mostly just slow. I took the left route, two bridges, which appears to be slower than the right route. Iscreweed up 11/12. I saw 12 cutting into the woods and went to it first before 11. Pretty far back in the standings but still got third U.S.
