I blaze the boundaries of the AT corridor around Killington, VT. In most places the corridor is quite wide, well beyond the trail itself. You follow the boundary with map and compass and work from one survey marker to the next 500' away. Along the way I refresh yellow blazes or add new ones as needed. The paint is thick "tree marking" paint I carry in a screw top water bottle. Got to be careful or you make a mess climbing through rough terrain and vegetation. A can of spray paint won't cut it, as you found out.

I used brush paint once - jar, cap, brush. Thought spray would be expedient. At $6/can, that loses, too. Dedicated shirt & pr. of pants is a good idea. I painted the boat bottom last week. For some reason, it was the least messy time in memory.
