I’d have been done for in a swim that was 2km instead of 1 :-o massive respect for that and well done on nailing the rest! Impressive

I can really associate with this - I did the 'Roc' triathlon in June last year - it was a sea swim and about a minute in I completely stopped with that panic of I can't do this but I can't stop 1 minute in! It took me a his minute or two to start again. The swim took me 48 minutes and I have never been so relieved as when I got out of the water! Thinking of other challenges - I have really enjoyed the longer triathlons with road bike but off road hill runs - not sure if I'd do a sea swim again though, lakes are safer for me I think!

I think it’s good to have a challenge when the ‘challenges’ of international orienteering aren’t there anymore, but I’m not sure triathlon is for me. I just don’t like the swimming enough. I do fancy lakes in a day but getting my body ready for distance is tricky. The queen of doing crazy challenges though is Sarah Dunn. I just think I haven’t got as much downtime in my life as she maybe does. Hill run and road bike - the best for this is the Highland Cross (http://www.highlandcross.co.uk/ ) An absolute classic, but incredibly hard to get an entry. Also good would be the Applecross duathlon (also hill run road bike) but it clashes with the Aviemore duathlon weekend which is fun (for Ray) and not as far away, maybe we should do a mountain marathon sometime!

Lakes in a Day is a fabulous event for an ultra. Well it was when I did it in 2019 :-) Nav4 do good ‘low frills’ stuff, not multi discipline but top events
Although the weather is often crap, the Grampian Mountain challenge is great - and you don’t have to carry your overnight kit, which means you get to take lots of nice warm dry kit.

Lakes in a day was fun but I wouldn't do it again! And Claire Baker has just talked me into my first mountain marathon since the age of 18!
