With about 25 in category, 4th in these North Americans is probably my best result ever! Never a 'perfect' race, but pretty pleased for a tough course.

I actually felt that Long on Saturday was my best race but with more open woods, lots of others improved as well.
Only Sunday's Sprint (errors plus pace) was disappointing.

Interesting mathematical concept (to me): theoretically you could finish 8th in every race and still finish 3rd overall.

Thats a good showing - congrats.

Yes, the math is interesting. Of course it depends on a scoring system that rewards consistency. However, in SML formats, there usually are usually no "overall" awards. Multi-day events such as Laramie Daze and Swedish O'ringen do use "% behind" to assign points to each day and total those points.

The 2-day US Classic Champs (April 2012 in Georgia) still uses "total time" for awards.

Your comment also applies to split times on courses - usually I have few great legs but consistency brings up my final placement.

Consistency pays off in the end. You don´t win championships with it but it´s more rewarding to be (relatively) clean but slow in a multi-day event than speeding one day and blowing it all the next...

It was fun racing against you in the middle - but you totally beat me in the long though when I didn´t have the legs to accompany my almost spotless orienteering. Made a 180 out of control 6 for around 2.30 lost which was the only mistake worth mentioning (well, maybe 15-20 sec on #7 too).
