Just checking them out, sorry I missed it on your log.

First off, don't worry about standing on the skate skis. Not as important with skate skis as classic and a good store can do a pressure test to ensure they are stiff enough for you. When you get on them you should feel that they "track" well. If they get "squirrly" feeling it means they flatten out and are too soft.

Madshus make good skis, I'm sure they'll be great. Bit concerned about the wood-core and hope they aren't a bit heavy. Get them waxed as much as possible when you first get them, that will be a big issue. If possible take them to a place with a "hot-box". I'm not sure if you're familiar with term.... But an excellent way for really getting wax into the base.

Boots and poles: What are you looking for? I think Fresh Air might have some good deals this time of year, but be careful of boots online.

Not sure yet other than the best possible ratio of price to quality. I'm not likely to buy another pair of boots for years and years (still using the classic ones I got when I bought the waxless classic skis from FA). so I'm ok to invest in a good pair. I will not buy anything unless ice tried them on somewhere first. Too important to risk.

Lots of poles just appeared in MEC clearance but I haven't worked out how to fit/choose them yet.

MEC is mounting the bindings and doing a hot wax. Is that what you mean?

Skis are light as a feather. Should make getting up off my ass after I wipeout easier.

Where in Ontario can someone try biathlon? Both Ben and I think it's too cool to pass up.

Biathlon: I think there's a club in Collingwood? There is totally a kids program and will have a try it out day. Totally worth a trip! If you're ever in Ottawa in the winter I know the head coach at Chelsea Nordic and you could try it out with him.

Hot wax: one is a good start, but you'll want to get them waxed a few times in the first year. One important thing is to make sure you summer wax them! This means that when you're done skiing for the year, get a thick layer of wax put on and don't scrape it. That will protect your bases from drying out over the summer.

Highlands has a biathlon range and offers the biathlon bears kids program. tarno has a LED light rifle which we used in winter ARK in previous years. Lots of fun.
