Walking 25:00 [1]

Some stretching on the deck, then walking around to look for Jena who seem to have disappeared in the woods towards the Ellis river, did not find her, but she came back 1/2 hour later. Indirectly protesting her being left out of exercises activities, or perhaps just following all the smells emanating from the snow-uncovered landscape. Snow is TOTALLY gone. Did not bring skigear.
2 PM

Walking 1:15:00 [1] 3.0 km (25:00 / km) +200m 18:45 / km

Walking leisurely up and down the remaining snow patches at Black Mt. with Nancy and Jena. Jena took full advantage of the last snow by rubbing her belly and rolling frequently. Some bird watching: nuthatches, a partridge, woodpeckers, chick-a-dee of course and others.

Trail running 57:30 [3] 4.8 km (11:59 / km) +530m 7:43 / km
shoes: Keen

Then running up and down Doublehead: up the hiking trail, down the ski trail. Goal was to keep running all the way up, only two very steep section where I could not maintain a jog. Felt pretty good, but slipped once on the mud on the way down barely escaping a mud-faceplant. Jena clearly outran me on the uphill, but we were about even on the downhill.

Cycling - Bianci Mt Bike 15:00 [2] 4.45 km (3:22 / km) +140m 2:55 / km

Biking home along road. Almost 80F now, but air is dry as a bone, so quite pleasant.
6 PM

Orienteering 1:40:00 [3] 10.2 km (9:48 / km) +150m 9:08 / km

Collecting Streamers at Pawtuck from Sunday's training. 13-18 seem to be present, then 7 - 12 were mostly missing, must have been picked already. Had issues on three controls, and spent quite some correcting, then verifying my location. Always a humble experience if you have to relocate at Pawtuckaway.

Running 20:00 [2] 4.45 km (4:30 / km) +45m 4:17 / km

Run to work, moderate speed. Warm out. 70F !! Feels like summer is coming. Weird but nice.
7 PM

Running 20:00 [3] 4.45 km (4:30 / km) +140m 3:53 / km

Running home, steady, fast, keep my upper body high while I still have good core strength from skiing.
Spring peepers are going fortissimo already. I seem to interrupt their symphony practice when I get near them. Must be an early season record.

Orienteering 2:15:00 [1] 10.0 km (13:30 / km) +200m 12:16 / km

Hanging flags and Epunches for the Middle Distance Pawtuck Training. Nice course. (designed by Alexei). I did finish - 14 - 13 - 12, then 1, 2, 4, 3, 11, 5, 10, 6, 7, 9, 8 and back to finish. Also bike to and from boat ramp.
12 PM

Orienteering 2:00:00 [1] 12.0 km (10:00 / km) +200m 9:14 / km

And then collecting the flags. Biked to midpoint near finish, then jogged to start. Waited till 11:30 hoping that I could race the course, and would epunch a fake control to keep track of the time of collecting at each control. However when I advanced towards 3, I saw three people (Sam, Ali and Earl) still searching for it. Then changed strategy, figured I needed to stay behind these, so I instead helped first, Earl, then Ali with some navigational hints.
As my backpack got fuller with controls, just walked around at a leisurely pace. It is getting to be outright hot in the sun (must be around 75F) . How is it going to be in July?
4 PM

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] 6.5 km (9:14 / km) +150m 8:17 / km

Trying to visit (and collect) some streamered locations of the "Long" course of the Pawtuck training weekend. Had major problem with 1, lost the trail, found another apparently unmapped trail, and was just plain confused in the obelisk landscape behind the boatramp. Afterwards, much better to 2,3,4,5, and 6. Afterwards did the closer loop of 14 - 18 , then the last three. (these seem to have been collected already. Nice training, but was getting really tired in the heat, and without gaiters, my lower legs were scratched up. I found the are behind boatramp the most challenging and also the roughest area of Pawtuck. Good training! Thanks Ian and the crew for putting it on.
