This was a very enjoyable run in unfamiliar terrain. The hills were steep, the forest was thick and the air was thin. However, it was awesome to run in the alpine terrain on a glorious sunny and still day.
I lost around 30 seconds on a few controls where I cut into the forest too early. Next time I race here I will be staying in the ski runs for as long as possible, even if it means running significant extra distance. Any time that I tried to cut through bush, I lost time on the leaders.
It was a great effort by Rob Preston to make the map and set the courses. The arena was ideal, with an indoor "finish tent", power and decking with views out over Gippsland. This may be an early leader for the 2013 Event Management of the Year award. The standard has been set and will be hard to beat.
