Run (off-road) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 mudclaw o330, sz 10.5

Beinn Lora. Felt good today - fair bounded up until it got just a little too steep and the fast guys pulled away. Perfect evening for it.

Swim 5:00 [1]

Had to make a new training category for this, which says it all! Stopped at Ganavan on the ride home and hopped in with the wetsuit on to make sure I'm not going to sink without trace on Sunday. Managed to swim out from the beach and back - probably about 100m all in all and arms were like jelly. Let's hope there's a following tide on the day!

Orienteering race 30:31 [4] ***
12c shoes: VJ Supra, sz 11

Scottish inter-club relay champs at Mugdock. Leg 2 (green), 4.3 km. Good to be orienteering again after a bit of a break. Have hardly run since the 6-days. Not too technical but a good relay course with plenty of route choice and some fast running. Caught RL and had a head-to-head ding-dong the rest of the way.

Mountain bike 45:00 [2]

Kerrera with M. Stunning day. Went clockwise, so the opposite way to next week's triathlon, but got a feel for how it'll be.

Buachaille Etive Beag instead of Beinn Lora tonight. A great evening - even got some sun on top. Easyish pace, though was late so had some catching to do.

Run (off-road) race 3:35:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 mudclaw o330, sz 10.5

The Two Inns race from Creagan Inn to Glencoe. 14 miles/1770 m climb. This was a tough one! The cloud was down for most of the way, with lashing rain passing through in showers. An unpleasant day for the marshalls on the tops. Should have taken a better map than a blurry print off of the 1:50000, so was running very roughly most of the time and what looked like an obvious ridge line was far from obvious in the clag - took some pretty bad lines. Kept coming back to a fence, so could probably just have followed that all the way. Didn't see anyone for most of the second half of the race. Happy to be romping down the final descent into Glencoe, across a couple of raging burns, one of which nearly took me with it. A long nervous wait for the organisers as half of the field seemed to have gone missing, with the last survivors coming in at 6 hours or so and a few evacuations off the hill. Fun in an epic survival sort of way.

Beinn Lora. Appalling weather - it's rained solidly all day - but a good turnout for Jim's birthday.

Commute. A nice sunny day so it was a surprise to be heading into a screaming headwind all the way to Ganavan. Struggled on the 1-speed, but got a helping hand up the hill from the beach.

Orienteering race 1:01:27 [4] ***
15c shoes: VJ Supra, sz 11

Day 6, Ardchattan. M40L, 8.4 km, 315 m. Finally, a day relatively free of organisational stresses and could actually focus on the race. Was looking forward to Ardchattan too. Really enjoyed it and had a clean run (though maybe a bad route to 7, too low on the slope), but just didn't have the running speed to be up there. A great finish to the 6-days with a romp around such a nice hillside in the sunshine with stunning views down Loch Etive. 11th on the day and 10th overall.

Day 5. Lochnell and Shanavallie. M40L, 8.3 km, 310 m. Fun to run on an area so close to home that is completely unfamiliar, and interesting terrain too (especially the coastal knobbly bits and raised beaches/cliffs). It was heavy going at times on tired legs, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Just a couple of minor bobbles, and a bit off the pace running-wise (it's been a long week!).

Orienteering race 1:17:49 [4] ***
20c shoes: Olway Tiger, sz 10

Day 4, Torinturk. M40L 8.7 km, 325 m. The first of the two new maps, so really looking forward to this one, though bus-stresses with the Glen Lonan road were a big distraction. So not really focussed on the run. Actually ran pretty clean but struggling to keep moving at a good speed and well off the pace. Some great terrain, including varied patches of woodland but also some longer slogs to big features. A pity the weather wasn't better as Glen Lonan would have been spectacular.

Orienteering 20:00 [1]
shoes: Inov8 mudclaw o330, sz 10.5

Putting out and collecting controls for the rest day sprint. Ended up as a bit of a rush, after leaving a stack of stands at home, but fortunately there wasn't too much ground to cover. A beautiful sunny day - couldn't have been better for a sprint at the beach.

Day 2, Creag Mhic. M40L, 7.9 km, 420 m. Very nice. Really enjoyed it and a good clean run. The field was well packed at the top. 10th and about 4 mins down.

20c shoes: Olway Tiger, sz 10

Day 2 of the 6-days. Ardnaskie. M40L, 7.3 km, 285 m. Managed to skip other responsibilities for a while to get a first run of the week. It was amazing how different Ardnaskie is at this time of year. Made lots of little errors and was struggling to hold a good line, though familiarity with the area probably helped save any big mistakes. Enjoyed the run, but really wasn't focussed on racing at all and it was quite a surprise to end up 2nd.
