Road Riding 2:01:00 [3] 27.5 mi (4:24 / mi)

Nice day , and easy ride around the roads by my house. Broke the 100 mile mark for the year. Still I want 1000 miles before June 24 ( date to leave out west).

Running 49:39 intensity: (28:00 @2) + (21:39 @5) 6.0 mi (8:17 / mi)

Back to Bristol woods after yesterday's rest from the weekend. Nice cool afternoon and it was time for the time trial again. I said if I break 22 I would be race ready. I hit 21:39....I thought I was doing well, but it hurt/felt slow going up some hills.........that's cause i hit must of been hammering. Legs felt good after icing. We had the yearly pow wow with the track team, this is where I give out arrowheads and tell native-american stories. They should know what a "Sequoit" is ..their team masscot.

Orienteering Related 1:00:00 [3] *** 3.7 km (16:13 / km)
spiked:9/12c

Hepcat training event. this was Maricel's plan. It was raining hard and I messed up the first 2 controls. Than it became fun after that.
1 PM

Orienteering Meet race 1:25:00 [5] *** 6.5 km (13:05 / km)
spiked:9/12c

Cat's meow and a badger club event. Where was the rain now??? I had my vison on to keep my glasses dry and it turned out to be a burden as it helped fog things up and caught on branches a number of times. I started out great spiking the first three controls. Than i lost map contact, when I thought i was on and under and over shot #4. back on track till the super long leg and I thought i was on it, till I had no clue where i was actually. so I relocated back track 300 meteres till i took basicly the same route and became very carefull and hit it. I was so near the area of the control the first time.
This was a great course today and an awesome weekend of training in the rain. This will make any meet in the future that rains a piece of cake.

Orienteering Related 4:20:00 [3] **** 10.0 mi (26:00 / mi)

Training at Cats Aganda, with O buddies. I set 8 controls with flagging and ran/walked other courses set. I also picked up lots of flagging left over from others who did not pick up tape after meet last fall. today it was raining and cold at times.

Road Riding 1:29:00 [3] 20.0 mi (4:27 / mi)

Cold windy day. My buddy, when I asked to turn quick, wiped out. Ok back to my house to patch him up. My ride ended because of time and he when out to get his 100k day in.

Running 41:00 [3] 4.0 mi (10:15 / mi)

Wind was cold so off to Bristol Woods for a run. As usual this is a great area with hill and all wooded trails.

Running intervals 9:00 intensity: (3:00 @4) + (6:00 @5) 1.5 km (6:00 / km)

6 x 200 with a jog across the track. This is a workout where you have a partner and run the 200 and than shoot across the middle of the track to get the handoff from your partner. Over and over.

Orienteering Meet race 1:08:45 [5] *** 6.8 km (10:07 / km)
spiked:12/15c

Palos North...First time meet directors and 2nd time course setter. It worked out well today with a few oops. Like moving the meet to another parking lot/shelter.
Sunny and perfect temps for a run in the woods. Nice course with a nice mixture of woods and trails too use mapped or not.
I used my right thumb compass today and loaned out my leftie. I am convinced that I should be using my leftie, though the rightie is more like using a base plate thats smaller and stuck to your thumb. Thats not all that bad. Its possible that I was 3rd being beaten only by Maricel and Kevin. Not bad when I skip a road run before orienteering.

Cross Biking Rd/Trail 2:00:00 [3] 24.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Nice cool day on the Des Plaines River trail. My goal was to hit 2 hours total time. With the north wind, a bit slower heading back.

Thursday Apr 15, 2010 #

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 2.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Bristol woods on a warm day. Before tempo run.

Running tempo 23:39 [5] 3.2 mi (7:23 / mi)

Felt good but dehydrated most of it. My usual tempo run there at B. woods. the ground was soft and very little mud. I think I will be ready to 5k race when I can get down to 22 min for this run. Or sat the 24th somewhere.

Road Riding 3:30:00 [3] 51.0 mi (4:07 / mi)

2nd bike ride on road bike and half a century. Goal is to have 1000 miles before heading out west June 24th. windy but it did warm-up today.

Running 46:00 [3] 4.5 mi (10:13 / mi)

Run at Bristol woods county park. This place was alive with some flowers around the map posts. I usually don't run here in the spring, not sure why. I guess I usually run with the track team.....but this year is a bit different. The great 2 miler I have coached the last 3 years and ran to 3rd in the state last year is now coached by the boys head coach, who also coached her in cross-county this year. Its good actually because I can focus on my jumpers and 400-800 runnners.

Orienteering Meet race 43:12 [5] *** 4.3 km (10:03 / km) +150m 8:33 / km
spiked:12/13c

Another middle day at the PIG! The comp was close, but I was not as accurate and blew on one control, losing 2 minutes when I overshot it and had to work back. I lost 17 seconds to GlenT, this day and more to others. But it was a decent run but not a winning run. This area even thought has lots of green on the map is still a great area. The green is not near as bad as it looks. I get lots more mini thorns in Chicago maps.
Overall a great weekend for orienteering, sunny skies and great folks attending. Thanks to Mike and his crew for another awesome Flying Pig event.

Orienteering Meet race 1:14:50 [5] *** 7.0 km (10:41 / km) +275m 8:56 / km
spiked:10/11c

Long day at the Flying Pig. I took first in the Green course. I had to leave early and thought for sure that someone would run maybe 70 min. So iwas suprised that that the time held up. One slightly big bobble at no. 6. I lost a couple of minutes there. Glen T was leading the event till the 2nd to last control where that rogaine conditioning must paid off and I gained 40 seconds on him going up the hill and than only beat 2nd place by 26 seconds. Another fun time in the woods. Afterward I headed to Cleveland 4 hours to go to an Aunt's surpise party. Great to see some cousins and aunt I have not seen for 15 + years. 4 hours back and in bed by 1:00am ouch.

Orienteering Meet race 33:02 [5] *** 3.5 km (9:26 / km) +145m 7:49 / km
spiked:10/10c

East Fork State Park, Ohio. Flying Pig!! Great weather and this was a middle course. the course was not to brambly and it was fun and fast. Lots of the best M-55's out this weekend. ok all but one. so the comp was tight and I ended up in 2nd overall on green. I did beat the no 1 and no 2 ranked guys on M-55, so anytime that happens it a good day.

Road Riding 1:42:00 [3] 23.3 mi (4:23 / mi)

First day out to road ride, very nice day and much better day for riding than a day golfing. But to each their own. felt good and but sore after the rogaine.

Rogaine race 5:50:00 [4] *** 38.5 km (9:05 / km)
spiked:22/23c

Badger Rogaine at Black River Falls, WI.
Maricel and I teamed up again for this event. I swore after the snowgaine I would be in better shape. Well I was, but still no match for Maricel. I hung good for the first 2 hours, the next 2 I trailed him and the last 2 hours was a stuggle. I told him if he wants to win a race get someone 20 years younger than me. Great weather and pretty good teraine. Not sure of the results, but we did not have time to measure our route, so we planned a sweep and it was not close to happening. We went way out on a road run to pick up a control No 30. It was like 2 miles to get that one. During it I realized that this was a mistake. Near the end, even Maricel was hurting a bit. There these ski trails that were not on the map and messed me up and I talked him into changing our route. That cost us going for a 1k control at the end. Too tired and sore to help pick any controls. Of course it was not like CAOC snowgaine, we had food and drink after. Great time and thanks to Kevin for putting on this rogaine singlehanded.

Cross Biking Rd/Trail 2:09:00 [3] 29.0 mi (4:27 / mi)

Great ride on the Paint Creek Trail right past the Brew Pub I was at the night before. Rochester Mills. I went with a college buddy of my, he was on my Russian Line in Intermural hockey. He was Pavlov, I was Blinkov and the other guy was Jackov. We use to have music blearing and it was Back in tyhe USSR with wings ties to the back of our skates.
The trail was cool, a few too many road crossings, but thats the best you can get over there. Out to Royal Oak to see the reffermen play at the Memphis Smoke. This area has an awesome happing scene. people walking all over, with good resturants. Mini chicago without the parking and expense. All kinds of old friends were there so it was blast and the band played great music.
