There's not many of us Texans on roller skis.

Obviously less impact than running but skating can be tough on the knees for other reasons.

Things felt great after and during. But the next day's run was excruciating. I've got a problem with my medial ligament that won't resolve itself.
I was going to ask you, I know you went to Craftsbury last year (I saw the great pics on Lisa's facebook) but have you ever been to Cascade ski area in the Adirondacks? I'm going to take the girls to Saranac Lake at Christmas. I just wanted some ideas.
I have to muse over the "us Texans" comment. My kids and I were verbally abused yesterday and told to "F*** off back to Britain" after I caught them videoing my kids in the pool and I asked them to stop. Ahhhh the times we live in.

Sorry to hear that. I could see balancing on wheels might be a little tough on the stabilizing ligaments.

Two summers ago we spent a few days around Lake Placid and drove by Cascade. We actually stayed in Saranac Lake. I've not been there during the winter though. One way or another, I think you'll have a great time. The question will be if the time will be on XC skis or not. I think snow can be a little fickle sometimes. They can make it for downhill but it is a little more challenging to cover the XC trails. But there will be plenty of other things to do (hiking, snow shoeing, ice skating, etc.) I'll be interested to hear how about your trip.

Oh! One thing I can definitely suggest is visiting the Mt. Van Hoevenberg, which is just up the road from Cascade. It's a major XC ski center but also the location of the bobsled and luge runs. There are certain times where they give rides to the public.

Sorry about the ignorant comments. Very sorry.

That's brilliant information. Thank you! I used to live just outside Winterberg (Germany). They have a World Cup Bob run there. Sounds like they have a similar set up. I've always wanted to go in one. I'm really excited about going now. I think you're right about the stress on the knee.
And don't worry there's crazies everywhere. Much appreciated.

Jordan warned me already about the snow situation. He said call ahead but we'll have committed to accommodation by then. The ice skating will help with the girls.

If there's no snow, you should be able to hike. Plus you can check out all the olympic venues...
