lawn mowing 1:15:00
Lawn mowing long grass and then removing a tree branch and debris from shed roof from last storm and shovelling leaves into bin. 34 degrees so quite sticky.
Road Cycling 6:00:00 130.0 km (2:46 / km)
Ride to and from TDU at Willunga.
Picked up Stu at Vic Park and we went up Belair Rd (steep one 12% at top), Blackwood, then up the climb & descent to Clarendon. Turned at top of climb out of Clarendon and followed the ridgeline towards McClaren Vale.
My bike started groaning going downhill whilst freewheeling - went to Ozygen circles where Bert, a previous solo 24 hr rider helped me out.
Put some 2nd hand ball bearings in but said it a needed a new hub shell, but gd enough to ride home.
Saw peleton come thru McClaren Vale on first lap and then rode over to Willunga. Grabbed a fingerbun and coke and rode up the hill. Luckily had a break at the 1 km mark, as they were having difficulty putting the 4 legged archway up. Rode to top -watched event on 2 big screens there and peleton come through. Then rode down to sit with friends at 400m mark. Exciting to see Porte ride through quite a bit ahead.
One of last riders did a mono for 100m +.
Then slowly rode down the hill and across to McClaren Vale with the multitudes. I was amazed how many bikes there were - thousands for sure...almost a scarcity of cars. Once we got on the bikepath it was more orderly. When we hit the first traffic light about 30kms there was a pack of about 300 riders waiting for the lights.... and even when we got to South Rd the numbers were the same.
Dropped in on Amber & Sara in daw Park and topped up with water and a banana. Winston av etc back to Greenhill rd..
My Garmin ran out of battery after 25kms - had dome 456m climb by then.
Distance calculated from what Stu had to McClaren Vlae and rest via Google maps..
About 640kms over the last 8 days! Will rest tomo - the legs at least.
Road Cycling 2:50:00 60.0 km (2:50 / km)
Ride along part of TDU route early up Anstey Hill to Kersbrook and over to Gumeracha and back to Wadmore Oval finish area. Meant to do longer with Stu but he wimped out with possibility of rain.
Road Cycling 1:56:00 40.0 km (2:54 / km)
I got conned into taking a guy from Melbourne on the Norton - Montacute loop after the TDU finish at Paradise. Legs were pretty gd on the climbs.
mt bike 2:00:00 35.0 km (3:26 / km)
Ride to and from car service place and into town too.
Meant to do a longer ride earlier but woke with a sore throat.
Road Cycling 1:19:00 44.0 km (1:48 / km) +95m 1:47 / km
9am - Bike Express bike shop friend invited me to join the Cylance womens team for a recovery ride. Easy peasy I thought. Except that their team included both Katrin Wilder (who won both flat days in sprint finishes and was 2nd on stage 1) and Danielle King who was in the top few most days.
We headed off down to the Bay sitting on 40kph! There were the 6 team members, 4 male staff and 4 of us plebs.
After a photo shoot on Glenelg jetty, us plebs had obviously passed the speed test and got invited to pair up with a rider each rather than hang at the back. I haven't done too much group riding of late but at least with this pro group I had no excuse to be too wheel shy. We still went at a fast clip but were having conversations at the same time...
After an excursion down the beach we headed to Norwood Parade to Pave café. I then rode back to the car parked not far away.
Road Cycling 57:00 13.0 km (4:23 / km) +404m 3:48 / km
A very slow ride via Anstey Hill to Paracombe to watch Richie Porte win the stage.
Road Cycling 1:00:00 26.0 km (2:18 / km) +189m 2:14 / km
Ride back from Paracombe the way I had intended to come up but was short of time.
Around Highercombe golf course then across on Range Rd South and onto Range Rd North .
Was looking for a quiet ride but for some reason the road down Tea Tree Gully Hill was closed and so lots of the TDU traffic was directed this way and thus I had to slow down and be careful. I escorted some lost riders as well.
Down Seaview Rd to TTG golf course and across to LNE rd and home.
Road Cycling 1:30:00 28.0 km (3:13 / km)
Ride into Vic Park in 37 degrees to see TDU Women's Crit.
Had a good chat to Amanda Spratt (winner) who I have met a few times and Peta Mullins, who is also a keen mtber - 2nd best in Australia.
