Orienteering race (District Event) 58:58 [4] *** 7.8 km (7:34 / km) +330m 6:14 / km
spiked:13/20c slept:8.5 weight:64.6kg shoes: Standard White O-Shoes

Running the Brown course at a DFOK district event at Lesnes Abbey Woods, in south-east London. Despite the inner-city feel to the area, this is a map with a surprising amount of climb - it's the edge of the North Downs as they meet the River Thames. So there was a lot of up-and-down on this course. Some of the climbing could be avoided though with careful route choices. The map was quite green in places, but the planner made good use of the nice areas. After several short and quite technical legs, the latter part of the course had several long and flat route-choice legs, so I was able to get moving fast later on.

I made quite a few mistakes on a map which was missing some path and contour detail, although none of them cost me more than 90 seconds each, so overall quite a clean run. It didn't rain during the race, but it had been raining before, so the paths were slippery and muddy, and it was quite gloomy. It rained heavily afterwards, I'm glad I wasn't out in that.

I almost beat Ed Nicholas - just 9 seconds down. However I was never in a chance of beating Ed Catmur or Nick Barrable - they were 8 and 10 minutes faster than me, respectively. But I'm pleased at finishing fourth in a competitive field, with 28 finishers.

Jogging warm up/down (Warm Down) 6:00 [1]

Warm down from a pretty fast race, around the ruins of the abbey at Lesnes Abbey Woods.

Note

I'm definitely going to York for the Park Race there on Bank Holiday Monday, having finally found cheap train tickets there.

Trail Running race (BPTT) 21:10 [4] 5.0 km (4:14 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: £20 Lightweight Running Shoes

141th Bushy Park Time Trial. Finished 74th of 361. Didn't put quite so much effort into it this time, so a bit slower. (Also Alex wasn't around to pace-set off.) Felt much better after the finish though - didn't feel that tired or aching unlike last week. Weather was dry and sunny but not too warm, and quite breezy.

Jogging warm up/down (Warm Down) 6:00 [2]

Post-race jog up and down one of Bushy Park's lovely grassy avenues.

Cycling warm up/down (To/From Event) 39:00 [2] 13.2 km (2:57 / km)

Waterloo station to/from home, via London Bridge. 18:30 there, 20:30 back.

Cycle Commuting 13:58 [3] 5.05 km (2:46 / km)

Third best time ever, and I wasn't even trying. Coming back late at night after a very long day, so little traffic, but it was raining.

Cycle Commuting (In to Work) 17:31 [2] 5.28 km (3:19 / km)

Bank Holiday, so roads very quiet, but headwind in all the way. Was also a bit worried about my right knee, which has been hurting slightly when cycling, since my trail race on Saturday. So I took it very easy.

Cycle Commuting (Back Home) 12:48 [5] 5.16 km (2:29 / km)

New PB for the commute - thanks to the completely clear roads due to the public holiday. Max speed 47 kph - almost breaking the speed limit...
