Running the Brown course at a DFOK district event at Lesnes Abbey Woods, in south-east London. Despite the inner-city feel to the area, this is a map with a surprising amount of climb - it's the edge of the North Downs as they meet the River Thames. So there was a lot of up-and-down on this course. Some of the climbing could be avoided though with careful route choices. The map was quite green in places, but the planner made good use of the nice areas. After several short and quite technical legs, the latter part of the course had several long and flat route-choice legs, so I was able to get moving fast later on.
I made quite a few mistakes on a map which was missing some path and contour detail, although none of them cost me more than 90 seconds each, so overall quite a clean run. It didn't rain during the race, but it had been raining before, so the paths were slippery and muddy, and it was quite gloomy. It rained heavily afterwards, I'm glad I wasn't out in that.
I almost beat Ed Nicholas - just 9 seconds down. However I was never in a chance of beating Ed Catmur or Nick Barrable - they were 8 and 10 minutes faster than me, respectively. But I'm pleased at finishing fourth in a competitive field, with 28 finishers.

Warm down from a pretty fast race, around the ruins of the abbey at Lesnes Abbey Woods.
