Orienteering race 49:37 [3] 5.0 km (9:55 / km)
shoes: Innov8

OY - Maugatukutuku 4.0Km Not much climb

Poor run. Another one where I really struggled to read the map. Generally lost a lot of time through having to stop to read it. Went with just the magnifier but it hardly helped at all. Combination of a green map, very thin lines and dark forest

On the first control (-2 mins), just didn't have a picture of what the control would look like, plus got distracted by coming across Larissa who was scared of the motorbikes which had just appeared in the forest. Slight miss at 2, although questionable placement (-45s). -30s on 3 from missing the small path. -15s mid leg 4-5, -1min on 7 through not having a plan, -2 min on 9 lacking confidence and misreading the control circle. Then several minutes lost on 12, without finding it - control was in the wrong place. Eased off after that, but was never going very fast with all the stopping and starting.

All in all, a frustrating experience.

Orienteering race 26:34 [4] 5.0 km (5:19 / km)
shoes: Innov8

Sprint OY - Waikanae Park. 3.8Km 160m

Bit long for a sprint, especially after the morning race. Pretty easy, though made 2 15 sec mistakes (4 - should have gone straight into the depression, 9 - ran straight past the control which was hidden behind a tree). Struggled to get going. Improved a bit, but still felt fairly slow. As the results showed ...

Running in glasses and with open terrain and forest that wasn't so dark meant this was a very different experience. Felt much more like orienteering without the stops to read the map.

Cycling 1:00:57 [3] 25.73 km (2:22 / km)

Whitemans Valley Loop ACW

Into a breeze all the way up the valley, so fairly hard work. Not feeling too bad though.

Running 50:25 [3] 9.0 km (5:36 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

From the car park by the river off the Stokes Valley Road up through KGMP (the northern track), down the forest road towards Haywards and back. Major felling on the main track since last time I was there.

Pretty good physically, though had forgotten just how tough the climb is. Was I really doing it 3 times in a row for BG training??

Running 1:21:57 [3] 15.0 km (5:28 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

The Dry Creek Loop ACW, but starting from the entrance at the top of Kelson.

A bit lacklustre, but much better than yesterday, and coped with the hills quite well apart from the initial climb.

shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

Extended Avro - Avian loop.

Legs did not want to know, so took it easy.
