Trail Running (Craftsbury) 40:00 [2] 2.68 mi (14:56 / mi) +56m 14:01 / mi
ahr:100 max:132

Biathlon training. Warm up run over to the old biathlon range to check out the mechanical targets. Definitely could construct one with some effort.

Then drills and target work. Excellent coaching help by Ethan on prone; after observation and discussion about breathing I missed one and then shot 9 straight. Also some on standing, that still needs work.

Run with Joe and Christian. Felt better this morning than I expected. Was really stiff yesterday evening after the hiking and climb.

Hiking (AT/LT Corridor Monitoring) 1:35:03 [3] 2.49 mi (38:11 / mi) +408m 25:17 / mi
ahr:116 max:151

Up the old AT trail from Sherburne Pass to the Pico cabin.

Hiking (AT/LT Corridor Monitoring) 3:21:50 [3] 2.3 mi (1:27:46 / mi) +90m 1:18:18 / mi
ahr:105 max:131

Across the edge of Pico summit following the NF boundary line. Some snow, but mostly melted off. Got into very thick spruce growth across the ridge, then boundary slabbed across a steep drop off. Decided to skip past 2 monuments because the footing was wet and slippery with moss. GPS showed I was within 30' of one, but it was above me on a cliff. Come back for these in the summer.

Got past that section and the west side opened up into a beautiful birch forest. Fast travel down the line until I timed out on my allowance for a daylight descent. Had been slowed by some buried monuments, had to find them by triangulating from nearby witness trees and doing a little digging. Bailed to the AT which here was only 200' away at this spot.

Timing was perfect as the cell phone with Avenza gps died as I hit the trail.

Hiking (AT/LT Corridor Monitoring) 1:21:26 [3] 3.13 mi (26:01 / mi) +141m 22:49 / mi
ahr:117 max:145

An hour down the AT to rte 4 and then 20 min up to the car at Sherburne Pass.

Note

Had a PT session for my wrist today at Mt Ascutney Hospital. Followed goggle maps to the location, but it incorrectly put it in the next town over on a similarly named road. That put me in the sticks next to a farm house. By then I had no cell service and wasn't sure where I was. Back and forth a few times, then just headed east towards civilization. Located service and an area map in due course, complete with hospital. Good lesson in not blindly following google maps!

Note

More work yesterday and today at the granite quarries. Also a brief stop at an organic spring greens grower. Lots of racks in a big warehouse with trays of hydroponic lettuce. Intense white (4000K) LED lighting grows them to maturity in 4 weeks.
