Trail run 1:09:42 [1] 7.0 mi (9:57 / mi)

PG sold us on the idea of running along the ridge in Greenfield and so Hilly, Sam, and I explored the trails for awhile and then ran back to the Karpinski house for pie.

Road run 2:09:00 [1] 11.22 mi (11:30 / mi)

What a gorgeous day to be outside. Running the trails in Lincoln with Jeff and Sam, out and around Walden Pond using a trail map of suspect quality :) Running in my compression tights (no muffin toppage at all) was great until about 1:30 into thing when I started to get some chaffing. Also starting out my calves were really sore (same as Brendan's) and even afterward there were still a bit tender. I guess I probably should have run at least a little bit on Friday too.

Note

Today turned into a bit of a rest day. My plan at work got derailed early and I didn't finish my experiment until 7 pm.

Road run 30:24 [2] 4.01 mi (7:35 / mi)

to work. feeling good, slept a lot and that helps. I've been dealing with an infected eyelid all week (a stye or hordeolum, as I learned) and it's finally subsided into almost nothing.

As I ran through the Shaw's parking lot the OCD part of me had to turn around and grab a shopping cart that someone had left in the middle of the road and go park it in the proper receptacle. Not as fun as this which, incidentally makes me feel like I haven't accomplished enough as a CSU member.

who takes their cart and says " I think I will leave this right where ever car is going to want to drive" ?

Road run 21:18 [2] 1.74 mi (12:15 / mi)

To the Berman's for a CSU planning meeting. Very excited about the upcoming Boston Park-O series. 8 consecutive Thursdays starting on April 15th and going until June 3rd.

We discussed many other things as well. Including another Trail Race (September 26th) and the possibility of another A-meet.... details to worked out ... several options mulled over though.

Dinner and company were excellent as always.

Road run 13:40 [2] 0.25 mi (54:43 / mi)

Brendan had mentioned that he wanted to to a practice 3 k after the meeting. So Brendan and I ran over to the Harvard indoor track and Ian biked home and then met us there a bit later. We got a late start because it takes me 45 minutes to write a short email, and they were waiting awhile before we got out the door.

Track 9:23 [5] 3.0 km (3:08 / km)

Thought that for this practice 3k -- the real US team 3k will be the week of the 14th -- I would aim for 9:30, but I was choosing that because I'm bad at math and I wanted to be running 5min 1600 pace :) Brendan made it easier and suggested 38 seconds per lap would be a 9:30 and that 37.5 seconds per lap would be 9:22.5 3k and a 10 min 3200.

started out way too fast, but felt good the whole way. running on a banked track was fun, I've never done that before (well I've been on banked tracks, but never running hard). wore my race flats, and a pair of shorts... that's it. Makes running indoors seem worthwhile actually :)

happy with my 9:23... makes me think that next week I will be able to run at least a 9:15 if we run on a 400 meter track. Makes me think that I will be able to get down to 9 minute 3 k by the end of the year too.

Glad that Brendan motivated us to do this.

Road run 41:26 [2] 5.25 mi (7:54 / mi)

Running home from the track. It was kind of nice to wear shorts on a run. Maybe it's time to pack up the tight for this year. My calves, especially my right (uphill) one were very tight the whole way. running in the cold damp wasn't ideal for loosening up after the 3 k.

Road run 33:42 [0] 4.32 mi (7:48 / mi)

To work, got out the door kind of late, but this meant that I could swing past Hammond Pond and pick up the night o flags that Alex had cached for me earlier in the morning.

I've just slowly been shifting my work day to start and end later.... should get back to a 9 to 5 if I can.

orienteering 36:19 [2] 2.11 mi (17:13 / mi)

Tired after yesterday's hills. Ran out to Hammond Pond and set reflectors for tonight's CSU training. 3.2 k course and chili for dinner afterward.

I think I need a break from Hammond Pond, maybe I need to switch up and run at Prospect more often.
7 PM

orienteering 1:11:57 [1] 2.3 mi (31:17 / mi)

Ran around the course tonight with Rachel, a friend from work. She had really good instincts when it came to navigation and wasn't scared away by all the other characters that showed up :)

Vadim also set an ARDF beacon but I didn't get a chance to go find it. Dinner and Boggle after made for an excellent evening.

Road run 31:15 [2] 4.05 mi (7:43 / mi)

Running to work in the morning. Sam got me a new pair of tights as a present. They are underarmour compression tights, and they are pretty form fitting. I think I like them, Sam is worried that they are too small, but I think maybe they are designed to compress this much.
6 PM

Road run 1:16:40 intensity: (56:40 @2) + (20:00 @5) 8.68 mi (8:50 / mi)

Hill workout. SGB tried to convince a few of the CSU running section to join in on the 2 minute hills on Summit Ave, but in the end it was just us. My plan was to run 2 reps before the 6:45 meeting time, and then get 8 more running with SGB. I got out, ran a couple reps, waited a short time, then decided to run a couple more until he got there. It was a huge help to have someone to run with, you can see from my times. After the workout I was tired, I took the shuttle home, and will use the energy to plan for tomorrows night-o training.
