Rest Day - chest sore and still coughing

Saturday May 3, 2014 #

12 PM

Running warm up/down 19:55 [2] 1.93 mi (10:19 / mi) +125m 8:35 / mi

Warm up with Steph and Holly

Running race 1:31:54 [4] 7.63 mi (12:03 / mi) +990m 8:35 / mi

Coniston fell race - started off steady up wetherlam but was still around Sally Newman, Hazel Robinson and Heather Marshall. A bit of to and froing up the hill but took a different line to most on the top part which seemed to work out ok. Topped out with Lou Roberts then the pace up wetherlam started to pay off as I overtook people up prison band and over to old man.

Descent not terrible but way below what I would have done a year ago. Helen Leigh caught me just after hitting the track and I knew there was little chance of me catching her on the runnable end to the race. Aiming for 90mins, not far off, next time :-) Still a 7min10 improvement on 2010 so not too shabby.

Lungs working ok but still not able to push on hard so couldn't keep up with everyone on the runnable wetherlam. This might have payed off the for the second half of the race of course... Another race where I felt ok at the end so should really have been able to run a bit harder but never mind - once breathing sorted should be able to get my 2 mins to go sub 90!

Nasty cough for hours after finishing - slightly better by the end of the night but still coughing and chest sore/tight Sunday.

Running 45:52 [2] 5.9 mi (7:46 / mi) +152m 7:12 / mi

Exploring the other end of a blustery scar. Map memory failed a little bit so a bit more tarmac involved than originally planned.

Felt good, fingers crossed I'll feel as strong on Saturday....

Scar run with Helen. Was another long day at work and when I got home I couldn't quite get myself out the door on my own. Thankfully Helen's train back from London was earlier than planned so quickly made a plan to meet and run around the scar. Just what was needed - head starting to get a bit too full of work and thesis, good chat and feel a million times better now. Lungs functioning perfecto. Nose full of pollen but will settle for spluttering round coniston if I can breathe....

Note
(rest day)

Double rest day - lung seem ok now - peak flow back up too. I'm not convinced this is showing any pollen related pattern unless it takes breathing hard (ie running) in pollen filled air to trigger it....

(rest day)

Long day at work - hopefully got stuff on the way to sorted now though. Evening of thesis just for good measure.

Lungs feeling about 100 times better than yesterday. Cough all but gone - going to note theses things down daily to see if a pattern emerges....
