Concrete/road run hills (Recovery hill) 58:00 [4] 5.0 mi (11:36 / mi)

You had this as a TM routine, but I’ve spent so much time inside lately and weather will be bad later today through Sunday so I headed outside. I struggled with my breath a bit in the beginning. I start up a long uphill section at 1.5 miles and was good by then. Finished the downhill section strong.

Treadmill tempo (Combo hill prog/tempo) 47:00 [4] 4.15 mi (11:19 / mi)

Took yesterday as a rest day which greatly helped. I made it to 6% incline which seems about what I felt I could do. Right at the end of 6%, I felt done. Tempo portion was fine.

Weight training (Wts) 30:00 [3]

Upper body routine.

Concrete/road run (Recovery w strides) 50:00 [3] 3.75 mi (13:20 / mi)

We’ll i now understand what “low energy” really means. This was not a good run. We’re going to have bad weather later so I wanted to get it in early. I never got any consistency in pace or gait. With this route, I generally get 15 to 20 minutes of trail. I turned around early because my left foot kept scraping the ground and I didn’t want to add a fall to this wonderful run. Strides were mediocre too.
4 PM

Mountain bike ride (Ride) 53:00 [3]

My husband and I were able to get a mountain bike ride in this afternoon. Weather is going change and the trails will probably be down for the long weekend. Even though I was tired I had a good ride and was pushing hard. At one point I had to stop. I had gotten thrown off my line and my shoulder was on the wrong side of a tree. I decided it was better to go slower than it was to explain to my boss that I had broken something when I was supposed to be resting from Covid. I firmly believe riding heals all things.

Weight training (Weights) 45:00 [3]

Focus on lower body. I’m feeling a bit better but had some vertigo symptoms. So I focused and went slow and deliberate
7 PM

Trail Run (Hike w Hank) 30:00 [3] 1.75 mi (17:09 / mi)

Took Hank out for his first hike. He did great for the first 1.5 miles. He slowed down the last .25 miles. And I really needed to bring some water for him. For a young dog, he’s in horrible shape. This will be a good option to unstuff him a bit.

Trail Run hills (Hill repeats) 45:00 [4] 3.75 mi (12:00 / mi)

The time is an estimation. I wasn’t sure if I could do all the repeats so my attitude was to do my best. I got them all done. Number 5 and 6 were probably the worst. I did some light jogging between repeats until then, and for the last 2 I just walked. I used a hill that I’ve done before and my times were about the same.
3 PM

Mountain bike ride (Easy ride) 45:00 [3]

We did 2 simple laps of my husbands trail. He loves to check it out on a regular basis. We also pick up trash. As we were packing up the bikes, some guy came out of the woods acting odd. My husband went to check and found the guy had set fires. In just a few minutes, they’d spread more than we could handle and we had to call the fire department. By the time that was all settled my energy level had plummeted. We’d hope to do a night ride at another trail but I just wanted to go home.

I hope you had a great Christmas and got to do some riding. And I hope the move was successful.

You’ll notice I didn’t do the long run for the past two weeks. Last week I couldn’t squeeze it in to the trip. And this week, I just had no energy today. I did a teledoc visit and she discouraged the long run. She felt it would be too much and she was right. If i have the newest variant, I probably have one more day of being sick and then she said I’d have low energy for another week. That means I should be ok for the race.

Mountain bike ride (Easy ride) 55:00 [3]

My husband and I had a nice quiet ride. I started to feel pretty good at the last few loops and kicked it up a bit. Felt good to just get outside.

Trail Run (Recovery) 1:00:00 [3] 4.8 mi (12:30 / mi)

I kept it super easy tonight. I got notice today that I was exposed to Covid and I’m starting to get some cold symptoms. If I get it, I hope it is a light case so I can still have some Christmas.

Trail Run (Easy run) 30:00 [3] 2.5 mi (12:00 / mi)

Beautiful night run. I used a light that goes around my waist. I really like it. I would have liked to have run longer but lots of things to do.

Concrete/road run tempo (Medium hard) 1:00:00 [4] 5.2 mi (11:32 / mi)

This was a pretty good run. I kept the pace at a medium hard to hard effort. I definitely got faster as I went. I got back to the parking lot 5 minutes early and did my cool down repeating a portion. The middle mile felt good pace but after that I started pushing harder unintentionally. And then my pace rolled on and off some.

My husband left this morning to move our son. I couldn’t get time off so he went without me. He’ll be back on Thursday after he drops everyone at the airport. They had to reschedule their trip by 2 days because of closing delays.

Trail Run (Hike) 1:00:00 [3] 3.2 mi (18:45 / mi)

We traveled to a cabin in OK for our early Christmas. We went for a family hike. The kids ran uphill. I tried to keep up with them but they’re good. I did run downhill better than them.

It rained here the past few days and everything is muddy. Not much opened and we didn’t even bring the bikes.

Treadmill hills (Hilly TM) 1:00:00 [4] 5.05 mi (11:53 / mi)

Kept an easy pace and decreased slightly on hills depending on length and steepness. I did 8 hills going from 30 seconds to 60 seconds. A few a changed the steepness during the hill.

Mountain bike ride (Trail ride) 45:00 [3]

I had time to drive to a trail and get in a good ride. It’s fun to do something different on occasion.

Trail Run (Easy w strides) 58:00 [4] 4.85 mi (11:58 / mi)

Nice morning run. Needed a light for the first half. Did the strides on the trail. Everything felt good.

Concrete/road run tempo (Tempo) 57:00 [4] 5.0 mi (11:24 / mi)

I’m really pleased with the speed portion. The first mile was at 10:45 and I kept the pace steady. The second mile was not quite as good. It fluctuated and averaged 10:50. But I think that was might best 2 mile run in a long time.

Mountain bike ride (Christmas light ride) 1:15:00 [3]

This years ride was much longer and had nearly 100 riders snarling traffic in a high end neighborhood. Lots of fun but a super easy ride. I’m hoping I can get some real riding in over the next 2 weeks but we’ll see.

Christmas is getting close and I’m feeling like a Scrooge this year. We’ll be going out of town again next weekend. This will be an early Christmas for the local grandkids since they leave on the 21st for NJ. I’ve been told that there are local trails to run but i don’t know anything about them. So the riding may be a bit questionable too. It’ll just be my husband and I for Christmas. My daughter will be working, our son goes to FL to be w his in-laws and our youngest won’t be coming home until early January. My husband leaves early on the 26th for a week. With all of that, no real decorations going up here.

I hope your closing is still on time and your trip to FL. And there could be a lot worse than spending Christmas w an 8 year old. Like spending it with a 13 yr old, so just wait for that.

I have to give you a Hank update. We got him at 78 pounds. He’s topped 90 pounds now. He loves to counter surf and opening Amazon packages has become his #1 activity. Instead of being a tank, he’s now a stuffed sausage. When we were gone at Thanksgiving, he stressed ate. I’m going to figure out a diet for him wo decreasing food for the others. That should be easy.

I got registered for the 20k at the Sasquatch Shuffle. I’ll get the Jan race soon. I was hoping for a sale but no such luck.

Concrete/road run long (Hilly) 3:13:00 [4] 14.0 mi (13:47 / mi)

This was a great run. I cut my typical time by over 3 minutes. I don’t actually race myself very often anymore. I typically just look at the time at a few checkpoints so I was really surprised by this. Trail was in great so that helped pushing the downhills. I worked on transitioning between up and downhills. I probably could have done better but my left knee kept buckling during the last 30 minutes. I’ve had this problem since I was 11 and when it swells, it puts pressure on a nerve and then buckles. A dr did a procedure once that damaged some nerve endings so now I don’t have knee pain or any feeling in that knee. I can’t feel the swelling so it’ll give way before I know I have a problem. But it doesn’t hurt anymore. I just have to be careful.

Treadmill (Combo run walk) 1:00:00 [4] 4.65 mi (12:54 / mi)

This was a decent workout. Running on TM was easier than yesterday at the same pace and I could speed up the walk a bit since it was flat.

Treadmill hills (Hills on 9) 1:00:00 [4] 4.9 mi (12:15 / mi)

I struggled today a bit with the run. Often times the 12 min pace felt harder than it should. I slowed it down a total of a few minutes in the middle and then tried to make it up when I recovered.

Trail Run (Recovery) 58:00 [3] 5.0 mi (11:36 / mi)

This was a good run. No spiders webs now that it’s colder so I don’t have to run an out and back w a stick. Legs felt good even after yesterday’s run.

Concrete/road run tempo (3x1) 1:06:00 [5] 5.75 mi (11:29 / mi)

Not quite perfect but I did my best. 1st was at 10:30 pace 2nd mile I made 10:20. Third mile was off. I was generally on pace for the first half mile and then it got really hard. I miscalculated and thought I was finishing when it had only been .75 mile. That was soul crushing and it was almost an 11min pace.

I was also able to get in a decent weight workout

Trail Run (Replacement ) 1:15:00 [3] 6.75 mi (11:07 / mi)

This was a combo dirt trail and concrete. Since I had the other run cut short, I added time to the recovery run. Not quite the same but long runs on a workday are tough. I just can’t seem to make it work so this was my next best thing since I’m off today. I did the strides at about the 50 to 55 min range just so I’d have good energy for them.
Our son’s move was postponed because the house wasn’t ready so we’ll have an easier trip.

Trail Run (Long run) 1:15:00 [3] 6.25 mi (12:00 / mi)

This was a great night run. I always feel a bit clunky in the beginning at night. But I got the hang of it and then felt better. The trail is super technical in the beginning and it just takes a few minutes to get everything moving properly.

Concrete/road run (Rolling) 45:00 [3] 3.95 mi (11:24 / mi)

Ran through my neighborhood. I’m still getting new routes. Mine are more for safety purposes than trying to out run old times. It just feels odd though.
