Orienteering race (Red) 2:05:34 [3] *** 8.74 km (14:22 / km) +185m 13:00 / km
spiked:9/12c slept:6.5 shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Suppose I should get some long training in before next weekend's Lowlander. 6.66 km straight line per the control descriptions.
:-)

I was about ready to start and found that Oslug was ready to go too. She's younger and faster, so I let her go first. We wouldn't have distracted each other with clean runs, but she missed #2, I missed 3 (by a lot), she missed 6, etc. Saw her just a bit ahead at 6 (I was 'offline' to the left...or the map is wrong, but saw Anne there), which surprised me since I thought she was long gone after my spiral around 3. Found 7 by myself, but saw her off to the left of my line again leaving 8 (which helped me correct). We think 9 was on the wrong (unmapped) rocky hill, but I could see it from the one I went to and thought was the right one. Then just tired and slow from there on in, but no problems finding them (people at 11 helped a bit too). Got my foot well stuck in the muck crossing the marsh on the way to 12.

EDIT: Added FR

Next week will be a long slog, I think.

MB out and back with a stop at PO to mail sympathy card to my SIL. Too much of that stuff going around. :-(

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

No tools. Kept my shoes on for warmup, and managed the planks and down dogs okay (now that left heel is better than it was early-summer). Had to take them off for other exercises though as my core's not used to the additional weight. :-)

Walking (treadmill) 31:15 [3] 2.0 mi (15:37 / mi) +32m 14:53 / mi
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Incline set on 1%. Does that make the total climb ~32m? (1609x0.01x2)

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]
slept:7.5

Surprisingly, the room wasn't stinking hot, as our friend Ruth arrived early enough to turn on the A/C unit (undersized for the room, but fans help circulate the air). Outside it was 75 when I got there, 85 an hour later, with dew points in the 70s. It hit 90 today, which is rare (but not uncalled for) for September in these parts. In fact, 22 of the 30 days in September have a record high of 90 or above.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Just weights for today's tools. Ooh--some of the core exercises were killers this week; muscles still tired from the weekend, maybe? Avoided anything resembling a push-up (and she did do a variation), since my shoulder/neck still ache from last Thursday's workout.

Orienteering 1:15:45 [4] ***** 4.61 km (16:27 / km) +79m 15:09 / km
spiked:4/9c shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

Out again at Pawtuckaway, again on the Bown course, as Green went east to the "big island" and didn't look all that interesting (straight line difference 3.8 vs 5.8 km). Not as precise today, and having trouble keeping my toes up by the end even with a Gu at 45 minutes. Need more training. :-) No issues (beyond catching toes when tired) with the Inov8's.

I had issues on most controls where I'd be off to one side or the other by 50-100 m, but know that I was in the area or had gone far enough. I'd stop to look around and either figure out where I was to correct, or see/hear someone at or near the control and relocate that way, so no major wanders, like in my early forays at Pawtuckaway. Will estimate error when I can QR at home.

Very satisfying at 7 to be on the line I wanted, less than 10 m from control but not having spotted the flag yet because of vegetation, and having the confidence to keep moving a few more feet before seeing it.
