Running 1:05:00 [3]

Climb 59 with Bairns. Got above the overhangs on the 11a and 10c. Still a long way to go mind.
11 AM

Running 45:07 [3] 8.71 km (5:11 / km)
ahr:146 max:171

Treadmill. 10x2mins Threshold. Found this tough today. Felt great before it, but after.....knackered.

Wednesday Feb 27, 2019 #

Bouldering 1:10:00 [3]

Momentum with the bairns after school. Felt great. Had a go at a couple of blues. Progress!

Tuesday Feb 26, 2019 #

11 AM

Running 45:11 [3] 8.54 km (5:18 / km)
ahr:142 max:166

Treadmill. 15 mins threshold. Feeling good but knee is excruciating when I'm resting. Especially getting out of the car. Calves were still sore after NYC run. Probably expected as I barely do any road running at the moment. The knee though.....I'd feel like superman (including undies outside the strides) if it wasn't for it.

Monday Feb 25, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

Travel Day. Sore and tired. Back at it tomoz.

Sunday Feb 24, 2019 #

12 PM

Running 1:11:02 [3] 14.51 km (4:54 / km) +26m 4:51 / km
ahr:138 max:151

Easy from 10th to Battery Park to home. East River was great. Hudson was dense fog. Loved it. Met Lackey and Pino for brunch and then Moorcroft for beers after that......Love NYC.

Saturday Feb 23, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned on going to Westmoreland....then changed it to 10 miles on Manhattan......then ended up with Delhi belly. (Which should be called NYC belly) So nothing achieved.

Friday Feb 22, 2019 #

5 AM

Running 40:47 [3] 6.47 km (6:18 / km)
ahr:158 max:186

Easy on treadmill before flight. HR is way-out when I don't use a chest strap.

Thursday Feb 21, 2019 #

Climbing 45:00 [3]

Short climb with the girls before the Chili Cook-off. Pretty tired today. Wasn't up to much before or after work.

Wednesday Feb 20, 2019 #

10 AM

Orienteering 1:03:49 [3] 9.06 km (7:03 / km) +83m 6:44 / km
ahr:147 max:163

Orienteering. The first 10 controls were fantastic. Very tough, but enjoyable. The last 3 were tough. Really had fun. This is what training should be like.
#1 hit stream but ran short of kite by 25m. Ran back to stream junction before realised my mistake. 2mins
#2 was unsure where I'd hit the path so relocated where path and stream converged. Turns out I was originally going to hit it dead on. 2mins 30
#3 hit stream 30m to left. 20secs.
#4 left 3 at 120 degree error. Didn't let needle settle fully. (I chuckled Niels if you're reading) 2mins
#9 not sure if I took the best route. But it's not there. 5-6mins?
#13 hit stream 50m to left. Gambled and ran left. Hit road and doubled back. 3mins.
Total time lost 15mins?
The terrain and map is awesome. (Although last 3 are tough, tough going.)Really enjoyed the course.

Tuesday Feb 19, 2019 #

9 AM

Running 36:17 [3] 7.42 km (4:53 / km)
ahr:145 max:170

Treadmill. 8x2mins. Feeling ok even with the remnants of the cold. Yesterday's spill has done more damage to the knee. But it's still tolerable.

Monday Feb 18, 2019 #

11 AM

Roller Skiing 54:29 [3] 10.19 km (5:21 / km) +23m 5:17 / km
ahr:128 max:145

Houston Nordic Centre was open today. I fell over and went home. Agony.

Sunday Feb 17, 2019 #

Note
(sick)

Got a cold.

Saturday Feb 16, 2019 #

10 AM

Orienteering 55:43 [3] 9.51 km (5:51 / km) +160m 5:24 / km
ahr:149 max:161

Frustrating day. Woke up with a cold coming on although this didn't make any difference to the race. I actually felt really good after I'd warmed up. Really enjoyed the course and Jordan starting behind for the added pressure.
#1 50 secs lost. Dithered and came in from above after climbing too high.
#3 50 secs lost. Went straight to it. Didn't see it then ran to the fence corner and came back up to it.
#6 easily 7mins?? Huge cock up. Left the path way too early. Crossed fence and headed to 9.
#7 2 mins Misread the feature. Thought it was in the semi open so dropped down. I was originally metres from it.
#8 2mins followed wrong gulley.
#12 2mins gormless parallel error of sorts and ran down the obviously wrong peninsula.
14:40 mistakes. Jordan won by 3mins. ( He made some monster gaffs too and he wasn't trying half as hard as I was)
Generally some very silly errors when it seemed very simple. And bloody heck it was cold.

Friday Feb 15, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

Eadie on a half day today. Was going to roller ski, but put off again.

Thursday Feb 14, 2019 #

Note

Macs are rubbish for orienteering.....thats official. Cannot overlay route on map on Quick Route. Grrrrr.

Climbing 1:20:00 [3]

Climb 59 with the Bairns. Quite tired. Difference between 10a and b is substantial here.
Routes from the weekend finally figured out. (Thanks to Martin).
11 AM

Running 34:00 [3] 8.23 km (4:08 / km)
ahr:142 max:164

Treadmill. 8x2mins Threshold. Knee is problematic, but barely felt it doing this. Cracking day, but still enjoying the treadmill workouts for some mind numbing reason.

Wednesday Feb 13, 2019 #

Bouldering 1:00:00 [3]

Momentum again. Knee is at it again. Saw a group of English climbers defy physics. Never seen some of the stuff they were pulling off.

Tuesday Feb 12, 2019 #

11 AM

Running 45:04 [3] 7.43 km (6:04 / km)
ahr:142 max:166

Treadmill. 15mins Threshold.

Monday Feb 11, 2019 #

Bouldering 1:00:00 [3]

Momentum before the school run and work. Quite a few new routes up that I liked.

Sunday Feb 10, 2019 #

9 AM

Orienteering 57:16 [3] 8.28 km (6:55 / km) +139m 6:23 / km
ahr:146 max:161

Another steady race. No huge mistakes...this isn't normal. Even wetter and colder this morning.
1 wrong control. 20 secs.
8 stupidly followed stream. 1min.
9 took the path. Ankles had taken too much thorn so needed some respite.?
12 too far right. 30secs.
15 exited too far right out of 14. 30secs.
17 ran to wrong control. Knew it but saw it first!! 30secs.
Total 2mins 50secs. Don't know winning time.
Really happy, especially with the compass work.

10 AM

Orienteering 1:03:45 [3] 9.12 km (6:59 / km) +136m 6:30 / km
ahr:155 max:166

Map, course, everything, but the weather, was fantastic. It helped having a decent run. First race in what felt like months. Started slow and steady. No real warm up. I was just trying to stay alive it was so cold. Happy Kendal got out too. Went to look for her at the end. Thought she was lost, but nope, she was just ambling along in her own time. I felt the Yellow was very, very difficult.
Controls 1-4 just steady.
5 parallel error. Realised as I approached the track. 1min.
6 exited 90 degree error. But ultimately this helped me a tad. 3 mins.
9 too high hit middle of pond. Wanted to hit dam. 1min 15secs.
10 not the quickest route choice, but needed a breather from terrain and get a plan together. To the path to the right and cut in just before the junction. ??
16 saw the streamers for the White and got distracted. Bore left too much 30 secs.
Shoelace was undone last 6. Very loose running.
Time lost 5mins 45secs. Don't know the winning time.
No huge mistakes made this much more fun. A rare event.

Note
(rest day)

Travel Day. What miserable weather up North!

Thursday Feb 7, 2019 #

Climbing 1:00:00 [3]

@ Climb 59 with the girls. These are long routes. Not difficult. 10B would be 9+ at TRG and Inspire. (Although the 10C's upwards look very daunting). Fairly tired by the end and ravenous. Curry was the ultimate recovery food.
10 AM

Running 40:01 [3] 8.08 km (4:57 / km)
ahr:138 max:163

Treadmill 6x3mins @Threshold. Was going to bail on this as the knee was excruciatingly painful this morning. Rolled the patella out and felt bearable. Probably should have pushed this a tad harder. Felt like I'd left quite a bit in the tank after.

Wednesday Feb 6, 2019 #

Bouldering 1:00:00 [3]

Took the bairns and Martin to momentum. The plan was to rollerski today, but the knee hurts and I was just too tired. Shuffled some stuff around for the weekend.

Tuesday Feb 5, 2019 #

10 AM

Running 1:10:31 [3] 14.49 km (4:52 / km) +19m 4:50 / km
ahr:146 max:165

20mins @ Threshold (2.84miles). Absolutely knackered. Shoulders felt like I'd been pushing a barrow around all weekend.

Monday Feb 4, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

Took a Skate lesson today with Pat. Very happy to have done this. Learnt a ton. Extremely slick due to ice and puddles.
On a side note Strava recorded one of my many spills.
8 AM

Orienteering 3:00 [3] 0.03 km (1:30:55 / km)
ahr:92 max:123

Sunday Feb 3, 2019 #

1 PM

Nordic (skate) 53:16 [3] 9.98 km (5:20 / km) +102m 5:05 / km
ahr:125 max:161

Very easy with AM. Great day. Saw more of Hoevenburg. A bit of drizzle but didn't affect the snow conditions.

Saturday Feb 2, 2019 #

2 PM

Nordic (skate) 1:09:42 [3] 10.63 km (6:33 / km) +201m 5:59 / km
ahr:140 max:160

Absolutely knackered. This was very difficult for me. Did some easy loops to set AM off on her way then tackled the 5k women's Loppen. Did I love it yes. Did it almost kill me....yes. Brudy said at climbing, skate's all about technique. It's obvious I must skate like an epileptic in a washing machine. I virtually fell into the arena at the end. I love it up here. Probably stick to classic tomorrow.

Travel Day. A long bloody cold one. But worth it.
