First run as a family man!

The rumour are true, Fern and I are now parental units. Patrick Tomas Hillyard last week and he is just amazing! We are still sleeping at the hospital because we can, and to make sure all things are good before we are left to look after this little man full time.
I managed to escape the hospital this afternoon to come home and have a quick run around the 'dene. It was cold and drizzly, but a nice little trott to get the legs moving again.

Sunday Arvo Trot

Convinced myself (well Fern convinced me) that it was a good idea to go out for a run. Didn't really feel like it, but i knew it would be good for me. It was going great until i got to the bridge over Minnow Creek on Sherwood Drive where a man in the park ( who could only use one arm) kicked a football to his son, and it curved directly to me on the path. So i stopped and picked up the ball and kicked it back. But when i say back i mean to the bloody big tree which rebounded the ball back towards me and then into the creek. In my guilt, i felt it necessary to wade into the creek to retrieve the ball. I did so, and felt it necesarry to apologise and then run away.
I also ran passed the "duck pond" which is now "mud hole" where many ducks were looking confused and sad. I hope the house that is built there eventually has bad damp problems and gets shat on by every duck within a 300km radius.

A bit of a run from home to Flinders Uni for Orienteering. After the morning rain it was fun to splash through the 10 creek crossings in Magpie Gully. Found it tougher than expected, but i did have a big break between runs.

Tilley's and Brown Hill Run

Simon suggested that this would be a good fun run and since Bridget had gone to the effort to put water out for us I thought i'd better go. Wow though, 8km all up hill and it was unrelenting. Once we finally reached the top of Crafers it was actually pleasant coming back down. There was a Downhill MTB event on in Eagle, and all the MTBers looked at us funny as they were being driven to the top of the hilll so they could launch themselves back down the hill, quite a lazy sport really. I had to break away from the group at Waite as i was out of time for the run and cut through som private property to get to the top of Brown Hill. Felt pretty good after and ensured i downed a full litre of green drink. Still feeling pretty good now too!

We were going to have dinner with Karl, Bess and Angus tonight, so i thought i'd make the most a a nice evening and run there. It was quite a pleasant run really from dusk into the darkness. There were some great views over Adelaide and some really fun single track running in Sleeps Hill Quarries. With a majority of the run being down hill, I smashed my Garmin 10km record by around 3'30". Good on me.
