Victorian Autumn Series (at last!) at Eppalock West, on a perfect autumn day. The Eppalock areas have a reputation of being super-fast - certainly back in the day I expected to give 5s a serious challenge here - but aren't quite as lightning as they once were (still pretty quick though). I haven't run on the west side much - it's been used sparingly, and a couple of the bigger events here I was respectively injured and controller.
A so-so run from a running perspective, although the distance was OK. Quads seemed to be fading about halfway through but that was just a phase. Dropped a minute or so on #5 but could have been far worse; it was a significant parallel error (possibly #4 wasn't quite mapped in the right spot, the terrain configuration did look a bit odd), but I got picked up by a trailbike track. Andrew McCarthy, whom I'd been chasing (along with Jayne) for the previous couple of kilometres, didn't notice and kept going off the map :-(. Minor wobble on #9, and was hesitant coming into #13 (in vague country which tripped quite a few people up), but thought I'd keep going until there was a bit more definition in the terrain and I saw something I recognised. Turned out the something was an orange and white flag...
Some big parallel errors today (including from Bruce, who dropped 8-9 minutes on #8 so only beat me by 8). James won with 46.
The trailbike tracks were being well used, which was a bit awkward. (I don't think they're supposed to be there, at least the unregistered ones).
I was pretty tired heading back, which was a longer trip because I went via Maldon to check some things for the Victorian Long in September, which I'm setting (Eppalock to Maldon is an interesting route choice problem). Pretty solid week to get on the board though.
