4 * greenway (~1.3km) at threshold pace

didn’t feel great today, into the 3rd rep i felt pretty gross and my vision got quite blurry which was quite unsettling. perhaps trying too hard for a threshold session but my pace did not reflect that as i usually go at this pace or even faster for threshold work. not really sure what’s going on there, still good to do a session but definitely quite disappointed with it as my consistency was not very good and i didn’t feel comfortable for most of the session.

northern champs - burbage

4th W18 + W20. initially i was pretty bummed with this run - struggled physically, nav was far from smooth and also missing out on the podium is never fun. on hindsight, there were a lot of elements of my race which went well and my result was actually quite good for a 1st year so pretty pleased but definitely not satisfied. (4th england as well so solid start for trying to get selected for JHIs). nav was solid until a blip at #7 where i was too low but still saw the control yet i thought it wasn’t mine so ended up going a little too far until i went back and got it. worst leg was to #8, got a bit panicked coming out of #7 and decided for the straight route-choice so ended up on the path outside the 1;2000 area without much idea of exactly where i was. continued so so hesitantly into the boulder field and even stood still for perhaps 45s trying to figure out where exactly i was. saw a control that could be mine and surprisingly it was - thankyou to the orienteering gods for that one. nav was pretty good through the micro-nav section with no big time losses but a bit scrappy - took a minute to get used to the scale as stuff was coming up so quickly which was a massive change from the earlier course. pretty happy to get through there with no big mistakes though - brimham rocks and yesterday definitely contributed to that. nav was pretty good for the rest of the course, not spiking the controls though and a big hesitation on #18 where i was a little too far to the left. honestly just really struggling through the heather, just so difficult and really sapped my energy. obviously work to be done regarding stamina and terrain running. pleased that i didn’t get hungry on this course as i really tried to make sure i fueled myself before my run - did take some sweets this time as well, didn’t need them but good to have them just in case. also a big positive is that my mental attitude was v good, didn’t write myself off before i even started and was up for it and felt motivated. tried to keep this throughout but hard too with all the tough terrain - a big step forward to have it initially though so will keep working on it to make sure i can keep my motivation sustained for as long as possible. this run definitely ‘fueled the fire’ for the next selection races and onwards to BOC long now - already started geeking ;)

also WCOC 2nd, 3rd + 4th in W18 - looking good for british relays!!!

dvo event - birchen edge

really cool area and pretty good practise for tomorrow - obviously not completely similar but the micro-nav in all the boulders should be good for the 1;2000 section. nav was pretty good, a couple of minor mistakes just losing 5-10s and some hesitation throughout but no big time losses. once again, not really pushing at all but also not taking it like a shake-out or anything just sort of cruising i guess. enjoyed it a lot out there and good to get my head into a map especially an intricate one like this. another brown as well so good experience.

feeling quite heavy legged after last night so took this at a sort of mid-way pace, not pushing but definitely wouldn’t call it jogging either. pretty fun course and a cool area so enjoyed it a lot. used this to help get me in the zone for the weekend by getting into a map. nav was good, not sure my route-choice was always perfect though. not much to say about this one really.

high doat o

a very intense night series finale as i was one point behind emma who was in the lead for the ‘junior female’ on the long course. started off very good and spiking the controls but then went way too high at #6 and lost a good 30s here. tried to not let it throw me but i think it did a bit which was unfortunate. took the scenic route on the long leg and lost quite a bit of time here so emma practically caught me up (after starting a few mins behind me) so towed her round the next few until #12 where we both got very confused but i managed to find it quite a while before her so got a relatively big gap again (~45s maybe). nav was then very good and feeling motivated until #18 where i got very confused as there was multiple small crags in the control circle and i thought it was just going to be a singular crag so lost 30s faffing about here and emma caught me back up. then got very fired up and sprinted the last 2 controls, actually managed to get a reasonable gap again but too much to do in too little time :( still enjoyed the run and it was very exciting! also pretty happy to be finished with night orienteering until november. also well done to emma for winning!!!

talent camp = done

been a very enjoyable few days with some great training and great practise for the selection races. also very happy with my results and consistency was good. areas were also very nice and pretty relevant for the selection races as well. i have also identified some areas to work on before the races including planning in relays and fueling for long o. very tired now though - i have half-term holiday now so i can get some good rest in.

talent squad race prep camp - 1st leg sim

2x courses. 1st was very good and made no mistakes apart from being thrown off at #3 and going to the wrong gaffle before finding mine. 2nd was alright, made a mistake at #1 which was quite bad but the course improved, feeling very tired though. really like this area and enjoyed the courses apart from feeling a bit dead. 4th/5th back on both of them i think which i am happy with.

talent squad race prep camp - 3rd leg sim

5th girl. one of my usual mistakes on relays is not planning the leg because of the pressure and the pack so made that my focus today - nav was very good and made solid plans which i kept too. so so muddy in places but alright running apart from that, didn’t feel like i could go much faster because of the past few days but pace was good for keeping nav clean. good simulation and also i have realised that i struggle to follow the pack and i feel like i’m not a pack runner (except in norway where i am 100% a pack runner) which i don’t know if it is a benefit or a hinderance. enjoyed it a lot out there and pretty happy with my race and position :)

orienteering race 51:20 [3] 4.61 km (11:08 / km) +133m 9:44 / km

talent squad race prep camp - night sim

hard area and struggled with the map especially at night so i was very hesitant throughout. only mistake was at #7, didn’t have an attack-point and did a big detour before finding it which was not very good. not very happy with this but also not really trying that hard as i was a bit worried about getting completely lost in there.

5th W18 i think. very hard work and struggled a lot physically, got very hungry from early on which didn’t help as i felt very lacking in energy. nav was pretty good, quite hesitant throughout as struggling with the 1;15,000 map as it is my 1st ever time on one of them. not the best today but always good experience and have worked out my weaknesses in long o.

talent squad race prep camp - middle sim

1st on course 3 (W16/17s)!!! obviously not about the result as it’s just a training camp but happy with that result and definitely a confidence booster going into the week which was really what i needed. nav was good for a techy area, some very minor time loss on #11 and #12 though but didn’t let it throw me off my race which is good. really liked the area and had fun, focus started to go later on in the course but managed to keep time loss to a minimum.

talent squad race prep camp - sprint sim

2nd on course 2 (W18/16s)!!! once again i know it’s not about the results but i am happy with my run! nav was good and picking solid routes and sticking with them. almost ran into someone’s driveway on the way to #3 and hesitated for at least 5s so that was some unnecessary time loss. feeling pretty confident after the morning so pushing pretty hard, a lot of hills in the first bit though.

YHOA middle champs - brimham rocks

W18 - brown (1st one!). got very confused at #1 as i was circling a crag but couldn’t see the control as it was actually on top of the crag on a paved area - lost maybe a minute or more here. then too low at #9 and hit a knoll beneath the control and had to climb back up but no big time losses apart from those two. really cool area, never been in anything like this before and really great training for northern champs on burbage when we have to turn the map over. very happy with the result!

a bit scrappy throughout today, map not amazing and terrain quite grotty so not too smooth. no big time losses really and felt pretty in control for most of the way. running good to begin with but then started to really feel the hills and lacking oomph for the last 1/4. not a great result but enjoyed it a lot and felt less crazy than recent events.

very hard!!! nav was very poor from me with multiple mistakes including a big big one at #8 where i was literally going round in circles. really not good tonight and got a bit fed up towards the end. i think i might be getting a little sick of night orienteering now after doing it so much recently. last one of the loc night series for me so almost done now.

definitely one of my favourite areas in the south lakes if not the entire UK. nav was really good apart from #9, aimed to hit the path but then came across an unmarked path and followed that very hesitantly but then spotted the large square marsh so rest of the leg was fine, lost perhaps a minute here. making good plans again and tried to stop hesitating so much and use the beacon features which worked well and it was effective. running pretty well as well despite yesterday's race which didn't seem too effect me too much apart from my legs hurting a tad whilst going up hill. overall a good run out and enjoyed it so much!

so cool to represent cumbria, perhaps finally sinking in that i live here now! really hard work and felt pretty gross the whole way round but that’s just cross country. need to get some more experience with these races as i keep forgetting how painful they are and it is always quite a shock. had a battle with issy throughout which was very motivating and annoying at the same time. great training and a nice day out :)

38th and 9th cumbrian so decent, awaiting selections for english schools but tbh it’s a nwjs weekend and i would come very far back so i don’t really mind if i don’t get in

better today. nav was perfect and compass bearings were really good for once, spiked all the controls apart from being slightly too high on #2. calves felt so tight and actually really painful when running up hills so pace wasn’t great tonight and definitely could’ve gone faster on a better day. enjoyed it a lot though and feeling happy throughout :)

not 100% today and anxiety bad again so really lacking oomph and going pretty easy. feel like i am in a bit of a slump with the mid-week events recently, maybe need to start having a focus to get more out of them or something like that. nav was alright especially for this area at night which has caused some big problems in the past. 2 mistakes on the course which included undershooting #7 and being too low at #12, lost a couple mins overall i think. much better than recent outings on this area at night and making good plans before leaving and executing them mostly well. so not great tonight but feeling better anxiety wise post race which is good.
