Cycling 2:00:00 [2] 21.0 mi (5:43 / mi)
(injured)

From Malham Tarn to Darnbrook (to pick up some quiz answers) then on to Arncliffe. Down Littondale to Kilnsey and up Mastiles Lane. Detour to south to visit Weats Top and Janet's Foss (more quiz questions) and back up road to west of Malham Cove. Cycling (in O shoes) with insteps on pedals. Foot not bad.

Walking 1:00:00 [1]
(injured)

Putting out 'controls' for this afternoon's beer trail. Walked just under 8 miles in 2 hours 45 mins, including one big hack across the rough moorland. Foot sore right from the off. Ice afterwards.

Note
(injured)

Did absolutely nothing over Christmas, except eat and drink. Foot did feel as though it was improving for a day or two but today feels sore walking about the house. Went for a short walk which was pretty uncomfortable. No idea what I may have done to make it worse again, but it does suggest that a complete break will not be effective. Grrrr...

Note
(injured)

It's now 3 months since the foot problem started and I'm at a loss as to what to do next in my attempt to rid myself of it.
12 PM

Trail running 5:00 [2] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured)

Short jog to test out foot as I haven't tried it for a while and it was feeling better walking about. However it was sore almost as soon as I started running, so I decided not to aggravate it too much.

Cycling 1:05:00 [2] 11.0 mi (5:55 / mi)
(injured)

Short bike ride to deliver x-mas cards. Up to Hade Edge and back around Yateholme and Holme village.

Walking 30:00 [1]
(injured)

Checking out the last control sites for the beer trail. About 90 mins of walking. Foot feeling pretty good, just slight pain coming down the hill at the end. Then a gentle cycle ride into Holmfirth and back. Foot seems to be improving slowly whilst I'm not running at all.

Sunday Dec 18, 2011 #

Note
(injured)

Controlling at Royds Hall. Only had to check about a third of the controls (thanks Mikey and Lulu). Walked so as not to aggravate foot too much but it was still a bit sore.

Cycling 2:35:00 [2] 29.0 mi (5:21 / mi)
(injured)

Foot OK this morning (although not quite as good as yesterday). Had to go to Otley Chevin with the kids, so went for a bike ride from there. Through Bramhope and Eccup to Harewood House. North on A61, then left up to North Rigton and Stainburn Moor. Got lost in the forest, but eventually came out at Norwood Edge (I'd always wanted to have a look at this bit of forest, but it was pretty disappointing). Down and over Fewston dam, up through Timble and back to Otley over Askwith Moor. Sting in the tail was the climb back up to the top of the Chevin!
Foot OK to start with, but I noticed after a while it was sore when having to push hard on the pedals. Better when I cycled on my in-steps but not ideal. Not too bad immediately afterwards.

Cycling 1:00:00 [1]
(injured)

At last my foot was feeling virtually pain free first thing in the morning. Decided to go out for a gentle bike ride/walk to check out a few control sites for my Beer Trail on the 28th. Foot a little sore walking and when climbing steeply on the bike and slightly worse again afterwards. I need to push the boundaries a little and hope this was just about right. I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning.

Tuesday Dec 13, 2011 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Foot somewhat better this morning, but still uncomfortable walking. Went to A+E to get it X-Rayed (on Kim's advice) to eliminate the possiblity of a stress fracture. Nothing showed up. Good news I guess. Will continue with (as near as is possible) complete rest until there is no pain when walking.

Monday Dec 12, 2011 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Foot feeling sore even before I put any weight on it. Worse than it's been for a while, although maybe not quite as bad as at it's worst.

Orienteering 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
(injured)

SYO technical training, Redmires. Attackpoints course and 'micro-O' course. Foot sore even before I started and didn't get any better, despite beautiful soft ground and very steady pace. Would have liked to do a lot more. Foot now feeling about as bad as it ever has, despite feeling much better early in the week. Very frustrating.

10 AM

Cycling 1:50:00 [2] 22.0 mi (5:00 / mi)
(injured)

NYMBO Trailquest, Wetherby. 2 hour score 'treasure hunt'. 17 out of 30 controls, 355 points minus 3 for being 3 mins late back. Winner got 370.
Enjoyable but frustrated by mechanical problems; chain slipping on middle cog so had to stick with just the big and littles ones. Punctured after 80 mins which cost me 10 minutes and at least 30 points.

Friday Dec 9, 2011 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Foot sore again first thing. Last day of anti-inflamatories, so doesn't look like they've worked. Frustrating.

Thursday Dec 8, 2011 #

12 PM

Trail running 44:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:48 / mi)
(injured)

Same route as Tuesday. Snow all gone, but very wet and windy and muddy underfoot. Foot was feeling fine first thing (virtually pain free) but was just as sore when running, possibly a little worse than Tuesday. Not bad immediately afterwards though.

Wednesday Dec 7, 2011 #

9 AM

Cycling 2:50:00 [2] 34.0 mi (5:00 / mi)
(injured)

Same ride as 10 and 1st Nov: Emley Moor, Mirfield, Huddersfield. Weather threw a bit of everything at me, most significant being wind. Tough last hour. Foot was fine first thing in the morning, but seemed slightly more sore cycling than usual.
7 PM

Yoga 30:00 [1]
(injured)

1.5 hours Yoga.

Tuesday Dec 6, 2011 #

12 PM

Trail running 44:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:48 / mi)
(injured)

Slight variation on usual Arrunden circuit (Hill Top Road). 1-2" snow on the higher ground. Foot not as pain-free as on Sunday (but ground not all as soft as Sunday), but still not too bad (a bit better than last week I think).

Monday Dec 5, 2011 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Foot not bad at all this morning. Tempted to go for a short run, but I'll do as told and rest it. Hopefully be running tomorrow (maybe in the snow?).

Sunday Dec 4, 2011 #

9 AM

Terrain running 1:00:00 [2] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
(injured)

Checking controls for YBT Final, Mausoleum Woods. Very steady jog trying to stick to soft ground and avoid jarring. Foot was really good for over 30 mins (no pain at all) but the pain gradually came on after that. Still not as bad as recently at the end though and OK afterwards. I hope it's still OK tomorrow morning.

Saturday Dec 3, 2011 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Definite improvement today. Resting up because I will give foot a bit of a hard time tomorrow morning checking controls for YBT Final.

Friday Dec 2, 2011 #

9 AM

Cycling 1:35:00 [2] 17.0 mi (5:35 / mi)
(injured)

Yateholme, Holme Moss, Woodhead, Winscar Reservoir, Hades on newly serviced bike. Feeling very wintery now. Foot feeling better this morning.
1 PM

Note
(injured)

Session with Kim. Treatment to foot and associated tightness to outside of right calf. Also had a go at a bit acupuncture. I'm also going to try a week's cause of anti-inflamatories.

Thursday Dec 1, 2011 #

12 PM

Trail running 30:00 [3] 3.5 mi (8:34 / mi)
(injured)

More contrived loops of fields. Foot about the same as Tuesday. I've noticed that the foot is most sore when running on a crossfall which slopes down from left to right (i.e. when right foot is trying to twist outwards).
Foot more painful again later in the day.
