Sunday morning row. A bit longer, trying to best my PR from last May. But fell 145m short at 6583m. Just couldn't maintain a 2:12 pace. Would get pace down to 2:12, then close my eyes for a couple of strokes...and when I opened them, the pace had fallen off to 2:20!

After my row this morning, I showered, grabbed my clubs, and despite a forecast for rain, took el and bus all the way out to the western forest preserves, where I was able to get in nine holes before the sprinkles began. Golf in January! Gotta love El Nino!

Got up late. Big beer dinner with the O club guys out in Palatine. Lots of fun. But hard to get up the next morning, despite the half hour walk back from the train at 11pm.

Finally bested my 5k PR set last spring with a 22:16.4, which took 12" off that time. Still nothing compared with my PRs in previous years, or Charlie's casual training pieces. But evidence that I'm regaining some conditioning after three solid months of training. Getting older ain't much fun, but there can be a few bright spots. 1000m pacing splits:

Fastest 5k of the Fall/Winter season. And only 7.9 seconds more than my seasonal PR set last May. Finally getting back into shape. Quick and enjoyable workout.

Two 2k's then a 500m PR at 1:56.8, which was 4" less than previous best set a month ago. Splits were ok; maybe a bit fast at the beginning:

Speedy little 5k..after messing with my Walkman for 20-25 seconds. Still feel really good, and can cruise at a much faster pace all of a sudden. No explanation.

Annual trip to my Dermatologist today. Guys who play golf get a lot of sun, and I want to know things are ok. As I get older, different skin growths pop up all of a sudden...kinda unnerving. But so far doc's given me a pass on all of them.
