classic ski warm up/down (Muskoka Loppet) 35:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:00 / km)

Finally, actually made it to the Muskoka Loppet! Went with Mrs. Huet and stayed overnight at the Jones again which meant we should have had some time to wax this morning - but conditions weren't nearly so nice and easy as last week. Rather warm, wet, some almost snow sort of rain, glaze in the tracks. Klister conditions for sure - which we tried but couldn't really get to work so used our zeros. Worked ok, slipping on the climbs in the track but could run up outside the tracks.

classic ski race (Muskoka Loppet) 1:00:00 [3] 15.0 km (4:00 / km)

Fun race, fast glaze but work on the uphills. Lots of double poling so I worked hard on the flats and felt good. Outpoled a bunch of university girls in the first 5km and caught up to some of the slower men then skied alone all the way around the back of the lake. Then a 13-yr old passed me with 5 km to go with no one else around. So we raced and had a blast in the winding flat final section. Sharp left at the bottom of the final hill, neck and neck heading into the tracks for the final 100m straight away and bam! Belly flop. Not the 13 yr.old. So she did beat me. But I still won the old lady division:)

classic ski (Highlands) 1:45:00 [3] 10.0 km (10:30 / km)

Coacged the O'cup kids this morning with Connie. It was a klister day but it sure worked. Fast skiing. Not me. The kids.

skate ski (Highlands) 50:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

Got up to Highlands late but it was still light. Easy skate. Snow was sort of soft with bits of ice from the trees so sort of fast . Got faster as the rain started to hit it and glaze.

classic ski (Arrowhead) 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)

Steve took a 1/2 day to ski with Mrs. Huet and ski the loppet course again. We cruised through the flat first section and I feel like a I know where I'm going now.
10 AM

classic ski tempo (Arrowhead) 25:00 [3] 5.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

I chose to do a race pace piece through the second section which has several climbs in it. Not super steep but I had to work to stay in the track and only stepped out once. I worked pretty hard.

skate ski (Arrowhead) 40:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)

The fresh grooming was just too tantalizing. I changed into skate stuff so I could enjoy the delicious glide. It was gorgeous. Met up with Mrs. Huet and Steve and worked on some downhill turns for a bit but mostly just cruised on clean corduroy. Didn't want to leave but all good things must come to an end. We'll be back this weekend:).

classic ski (lessons) 2:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (20:00 / km)

Taught classic skiing a really nice group of largely retired women who were experienced skiers. Conditions were superb as was the windless relatively warm day. Awesome tracks. So fun. With a great lunch and presentation by an adventurous world traveller.
2 PM

classic ski (teaching) 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Part of our instructor duties was to "lead" a group on the trails. Since most of the ladies were from Huntsville and ski at Arrowhead practically daily we were a little irrelevant but it was a pleasant chatty ski around the lake.
3 PM

classic ski (pre-ski) 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)

After the ladies' was done mrs. Huet and I took a map and did another pre-ski of the first 2 sections of the loppet so we'd have a better idea of the course which is rather winding and a bit confusing. Lots of stops to ensure we were going the right way. Great conditions:)

skate ski (Arrowhead) 1:20:00 [3] 16.0 km (5:00 / km)

Drove up to Huntsville with Mrs. Huet in time for an afternoon ski with Steve who guided us through their new loppet course for Sunday. We skated the course on beautiful buttery, nicely groomed snow and it was still light when we finished.

strength (tree/snow removal) 2:45:00 [3]

A brilliantly beautiful day. Bright blue sky and sunshine sparkling off the glassy ice that is still coating the trees up on the escarpment. It's just dazzling.
Goose and I helped Chanse on the trail this morning pruning overhanging, drooping trees and branches and then moving the branches and raking. Manual labour - I even wore big quilted winter overalls for the first time. Looked like areal local.
When I got home our driveway was knee deep with snow and had a chunky crusty ridge the snow plough left at the end of the driveway. And Tman was arriving later. So I shovelled for 45 minutes. Enough to make my forearms, wrist sand thumbs really sore.
