1 PM

Running 48:05 [3] 6.77 km (7:06 / km) +327m 5:44 / km
ahr:149 max:170

Easy from Deep Creek Trailhead. Just thought I'd get more familiar with the initial climb. Windy, but lovely, day. Trees have changed colours. It's pretty sweet here.

Sunday Sep 29, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

Nice stroll with the family. Very windy. More taper this week.

9 AM

Running 58:11 [3] 10.37 km (5:37 / km) +152m 5:14 / km
ahr:151 max:170

Easy up at Lizard Head Pass. This was supposed to be LSD. But I was given duff info. It turned into a reccy for another days' LSD.

Friday Sep 27, 2019 #

ahr:172 max:182

6x3mins at Threshold on Valley Floor. Felt great, lovely weather.

Wednesday Sep 25, 2019 #

(rest day)

House and Wife today. Back at it tomorrow.

Tuesday Sep 24, 2019 #

4 PM

Running 33:39 [3] 6.45 km (5:13 / km) +53m 5:01 / km
ahr:142 max:168

Easy on Valley Floor. Supposed to be a double today, but lucky to squeeze this in.

Monday Sep 23, 2019 #

11 AM

Running 40:42 [3] 7.57 km (5:23 / km) +72m 5:08 / km
ahr:157 max:178

Oil Change in Norwood so Easy little road loop. Very quiet town. Nothing in it really. But very likable. Garage owner would make a good poker player. I liked that too.

Running 40:24 [3] 8.06 km (5:01 / km) +40m 4:54 / km
ahr:155 max:179

Would have liked to have done this later in the day. Got back to Telluride and squeezed in a Steady run before school pick up. Stomach was in bits after the first mile. Done on the Valley Floor.

Sunday Sep 22, 2019 #

4 PM

Running 37:01 [3] 7.79 km (4:45 / km) +38m 4:38 / km
ahr:156 max:172

Today I won the lottery. Or at least I know what it feels like.
2x12mins at Threshold. It was supposed to be 3x, but on the second my stomach commenced evacuation. I knew the maintenance sign had been removed from the WC last week....it was four mins away. I bailed on the intended route and skipped and danced all the way to the palace of fun.......The door opened on arrival. Lottery won.

Saturday Sep 21, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

Youth footie is wearing very thin on me.
Anyway, rant over....heavy legs this morning.

Friday Sep 20, 2019 #

10 AM

Running 2:11:57 [3] 20.94 km (6:18 / km) +571m 5:33 / km
ahr:161 max:182

Dumped Father-in-Law off at Little Molas Lake (Section 25 of Colorado Trail) so I thought this would be perfect to get some LSD. Tried to get to West Lime Creek but it was a little too far. I'd never be able to get back for school pickup.
Chilly but nice. Still clouds made me take the Berghaus in hand. Easy, but again, HR doesn't indicate effort produced. Cracking run and drive over Red Mountain Pass was as fantastic as ever. (Still huge remnants of the avalanche that closed down the pass for months.) This was a very good day.

Thursday Sep 19, 2019 #

2 PM

Running 45:02 [3] 10.0 km (4:30 / km) +56m 4:23 / km
ahr:130 max:142

What's going on?? This was supposed to be 15mins Easy, 15 Steady, 15 Easy. Couldn't get my HR anywhere near any of these HR targets. This was a difficult 45mins. To cap it all my RHR was 4bpm. In Houston it was 61bpm. For the last 5 weeks I've always hit 170bpm for any amount of exercise. And RHR 20-30bpm. All weird stuff.
Valley Floor.

Wednesday Sep 18, 2019 #

12 PM

Running 43:12 [3] 8.24 km (5:15 / km) +111m 4:55 / km
ahr:149 max:189

Easy up Sunshine Mesa Rd. HR was normal first 2 1/2 miles up, then went bonkers going back down. Supposed to be a double today but may take a rest day away on Friday. Too much house stuff to do.

Tuesday Sep 17, 2019 #

4 PM

Running 32:04 [3] 5.32 km (6:01 / km) +109m 5:28 / km
ahr:149 max:167

Very easy up Lawson Hill and Society Turn while Eadie did Ninja. Keystone trail was closed, annoyingly, and will be all month. Fairly spectacular lightning this morning put this back.

Monday Sep 16, 2019 #

8 AM

Running 1:10:13 [3] 13.03 km (5:23 / km) +260m 4:54 / km
ahr:161 max:183

Ames Trailhead to Ophir Tunnel on The Galloping Goose Trail. Easy up Steady down. Was going to do 6x1k this afternoon but legs are heavy. Probably swap it for tomorrow. Scenery towards Ames and Ophir Wall was stunning this morning. Nice that summer has returned too!
3 PM

Running 57:10 [3] 10.88 km (5:15 / km) +83m 5:04 / km
ahr:157 max:181

6x1K. 4:30, 4:11, 4:32, 4:12, 4:15, 4:28, 5:25 (uphill).
Ran from bairns footie in Lawson Hill. Ran the Valley Floor. Tired, but things improved. Garmin has me maxing out on training load at the moment. Things are definitely not that full on. It's just the HR situation. I had a 4:30 break after the 1st three and my HR was in zone 4 & 5 the whole time. The 2nd three saw things improve on the HR front. Grocery trip to Montrose in the morning so a much lighter day anticipated.

Note

If you're in the market for a front wheel drive VW Tiguan in November don't purchase it in Houston. We took the "long-cut" yesterday on the Last Dollar National Forest Rd. It was unbelievably beautiful, but the car took "One Helluva Beating" as they say in Norway.

5 PM

Running 36:05 [3] 6.76 km (5:20 / km) +63m 5:06 / km
ahr:158 max:184

Very easy exploring Illium. Went down the lines towards the Coal Shutes at Vance Junction. Lovely little run for an easy shakeout. My old coach, Mick Garrett, would be all over the industrial archeology.

7 AM

Mountain Biking 33:26 [3] 8.22 km (4:04 / km) +48m 3:57 / km
ahr:131 max:158

WTF!!!! How cold was it this morning? No parking in Telluride so biked in. My hands were colder than my wife's undies. Even now my nail beds are aching. Ridiculous.

Running 19:56 [3] 4.57 km (4:22 / km) +69m 4:04 / km
ahr:161 max:174

Race....Blisters and Brews 5K. Achieved what I wanted. That was get under 20 mins. Winner ran under 17mins. I was worried how I'd deal with the altitude, so I took the climb easy then reeled in about 5 people ahead. Nice little race this.

Mountain Biking 27:08 [3] 8.05 km (3:22 / km) +113m 3:09 / km
ahr:111 max:142

Warm and comfy ride back.

Friday Sep 13, 2019 #

Note

Just seen the relay results. 13-15-14-15 mistake counts as a mispunch. That's even more annoying than making the mistake. What a weekend. It just keeps on giving.
11 AM

Running 1:27:47 [3] 15.62 km (5:37 / km) +158m 5:21 / km
ahr:159 max:177

LSD on the Valley Floor. Managed to stay off the mountains this week. Legs feel better for it. What a day. The weather is unbelievable. Like these 0 Celsius mornings.

Thursday Sep 12, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

This was planned, but wanted to shuffle the long run over to today. Work on the floor took over though. Got stung by another yellow jacket today. That's 5 in 5 days. The last one before that was in 1976. What is going on? Open House was strange. Both my bairns are liked by their teachers. The world's gone mad.

Wednesday Sep 11, 2019 #

Note

Trying not to dwell on the weekend, but having looked at Routegadget the Long was pretty cool. I didn't see the route to the North at all from 6-7. Really interesting routes all over the course. On Start to 1 some were way North. Again, didn't see that coming. Pity it didn't pan out a different way.
10 AM

Running 41:35 [3] 7.74 km (5:22 / km) +29m 5:17 / km
ahr:145 max:164

Easy on Valley Floor. Eadie off school spewing this morning. Then managed to soil our lovely brand new white sheets this afternoon. Poor kid, she better not give it me or she'll be feeling even worse.
3 PM

Running 34:32 [3] 6.5 km (5:19 / km) +22m 5:13 / km
ahr:153 max:163

More easy stuff, after clean up, on the Valley Floor.

Tuesday Sep 10, 2019 #

12 PM

Running 58:30 [3] 9.76 km (6:00 / km) +236m 5:21 / km
ahr:158 max:182

Very easy from Society Turn, Lawson Hill, Meadows, Jurassic Loop, Boomerang, Valley Floor and back. Calf is very sore/tight. Looking forward to a few LSD runs these next months with no real focus until next year sometime.

Note
(rest day)

Travel Day. Ended up stuck in Denver overnight and all morning. Got back late afternoon. Now to target some races.

Sunday Sep 8, 2019 #

8 AM

Orienteering 17:55 [3] 3.22 km (5:34 / km) +78m 4:58 / km
ahr:149 max:166

Really enjoyed this. Nothing daft, clever or tricky. Just normal fast racing. (Except for the map flip!!) The map flip completely threw me. Not sure why, but it did. Andis re-caught me and shouted at me for not recognising 7. But I’d already done that. That wasn’t the nonsense that was going on in my head. Our interaction wasn’t even brief. He flew past in disgust and I just tagged on for one second. Then boom I was with it again. (Funny thing that 1/2 a second is all we’ve ever engaged with each other over 3 years ) Then another 20 secs lost at 10 running around a building next to the actual control. Again Andis caught me, but this time he recognised a Dotard.
Best part of a throughly disappointing weekend. Bairns loved it. Kendal was 2nd. Eadie trolleyed around with her new friend. Best thing was Kendal recognised ineptitude and was livid after the Middle. Nice to see that kid motivated.
12 PM

Orienteering 22:42 [3] 4.4 km (5:09 / km) +62m 4:49 / km
ahr:140 max:169

This was excellent. Was crapping over the fact I’d miss my flight but instead Denver was closed and the crazies are off another day of school.
Jordan briefed me over the spiel and I was ready. Only mistakes came at the butterfly....which I knew immediately would be an issue. First I missed the Universal control (I saw you chuckle Jordan). Then coming out of that control for the second time I made the huge 3 min mistake. I went 13, 15,14,15,16. That totally pissed me off. Ultimately this was full on fun though. Hope it didn’t affect OK’s overall result. They were unbelievably accommodating to my needs in the end.

Saturday Sep 7, 2019 #

Note

Girls did great. Two happier campers.
10 AM

Orienteering 1:18:57 [3] 9.04 km (8:44 / km) +469m 6:56 / km
ahr:148 max:180

Close to bailing this morning and taking the girls down the beach, but they wanted to go run amazingly. I was still fuming.
Much improved experience, even though I got to the start with 1min 15secs to spare thanks the prompt bus service......
Generally I’m very happy with the run. Probably lost the race on the 1st leg. I went right and got caught in some terrible green. On leg two I was stung 4 times by something. Having read Jordan’s log yesterday I’m assuming the pain I’m currently experiencing is from Yellow Jackets but I didn’t see what was actually attacking me. 6 was a 2 min mistake. 9 was another 3mins. At 9 I bonked. I ran straight to the cliff on M21E. But it was under the circle so I couldn’t identify where I immediately was. From then on I jogged In exhausted.
Very happy with the navigation and the effort. (Paying for the effort now, terrible stomach issues). Calf is very good. Not sure about tomorrow. I don’t like multi level sprint maps.

Friday Sep 6, 2019 #

1 PM

Orienteering 1:01:40 [3] 5.66 km (10:53 / km) +275m 8:46 / km
ahr:125 max:158

Three thumbs down from The O'Callaghans. Think the summer spoilt us. The terrain and scenery was fantastic. HR was ridiculously low, but never really broke a sweat. Calf is extremely sore. Hope all the logistics are ironed out tomorrow.

Thursday Sep 5, 2019 #

6 PM

Running 17:12 [3] 2.91 km (5:55 / km) +68m 5:17 / km
ahr:141 max:160

Calf is totally knackered. Well pissed off. Now the dilemma. Run on it and be out for 8 weeks. Or skip this weekend. Apart from the cold I was really looking forward to these races. See what tomorrow brings, but it's hurting like a Sunderland Netflix subscriber.

Wednesday Sep 4, 2019 #

Note
(rest day)

I feel rough as a badgers bum. Cold's getting worse. Ears wouldn't equalise going down to Montrose.

Tuesday Sep 3, 2019 #

3 PM

Running 34:19 [3] 5.82 km (5:54 / km) +129m 5:18 / km
ahr:157 max:180

6 x 20 secs strides......ended up being 4 x hill reps. Felt shite, but I think I've broke it. Terrible night's sleep too. Rest tomorrow.

Monday Sep 2, 2019 #

Note

I think the Valley Floor would make a great map. Wish I knew how to go about it.
4 PM

Running 32:37 [3] 6.49 km (5:02 / km) +50m 4:50 / km
ahr:150 max:173

Easy w/ Camp McKee map. Felt wretched today. Caught Kendal's cold. Ran in the Valley Floor. Back on Hike and bike.

Sunday Sep 1, 2019 #

10 AM

Running 40:52 [3] 5.8 km (7:03 / km) +168m 6:10 / km
ahr:157 max:181

Back down Keystone Gorge. Easy with Bat Cave map (Kentucky). Need to do this more as I took a few spills reading and running in terrain. Achilles began to bother the last mile. (Despite the map.....I did not feel very "Elite". I think this theory does not hold water.)
5 PM

Running 34:44 [3] 7.26 km (4:47 / km) +36m 4:40 / km
ahr:149 max:167

4x5mins Threshold on Valley Floor. Perfect evening for this. Got a lot achieved today. Calf held up but sore.
